Which is best Final Fantasy. I haven't played any from the series and feel like I should try one
FF VI and IX
Come on you fags, I need some advice here

/thread.
>>329582262
I haven't played them all obviously, but in my experience I found Final Fantasy VII, X, X-2, Tactics, and Tactics Advanced all to be great games
>>329582262
Also forgot to mention 13 and 13-2, thought 13 very very unfortunately takes about 60-70 hours before it even gets to the real gameplay so that game can understandably eat a dick (has a nice soundtrack though so there's that)
>>329582262
FFIV.
V, VII , IX
4 5 and 6 were pretty great on snes, but the PC versions on steam are fairly shite (especially 6)
>>329582262
IV, V , VI, VII, VIII , IX,
4 and 6 are the best mainline games, Tactics is the best overall game.
IV, V, VI, VII, IX, XII, Tactics, Tactics Advance
That's everything you need.
>>329582262
Until you become familiar with the series, skip 1-3.
4 on the SNES is a good place to start (it was the first one I ever completed), but it has some translation issues and the story is kind of goofy at times (still entertaining, though). Other versions of 4 may be very difficult, particularly the Nintendo DS remake.
5 is probably a bad place to start because of its (relatively) complicated job system.
6 is a great place to start; it has interesting characters, a good story, fun gameplay (it has lots of variation and stuff to keep it feeling fresh). It can get kind of ridiculous towards the end with the "collect all of the characters" sidequests, but nothing crazy.
7 is a total hit or miss depending on whom you ask; personally, I don't like it much. I don't feel like it's a bad place to start, though.
I've never played 8, but I hear it's bad. I've never played 9, but I hear it's good.
10 is also a pretty decent place to start; it's very linear (which is good or bad, depending on your playstyle; I appreciate it because it's straightforward and I don't have to fuck around much). Loads of optional content which could be a fun challenge but can be totally passed up. Some annoying parts (temple Cloisters, optional sidequests with incredibly tedious bullshit), but the story is interesting (ignore everything from the canon which happens after the first game, though).
All of the other games are too different to be considered as a good taste of the series, but if you like Final Fantasy and you want to try them you may enjoy them.
Have fun, OP.

>fun gameplay (it has lots of variation and stuff to keep it feeling fresh)
This is total bullshit, VI gets tedious and unfun FAST because the random encounter rate is just as bad as IV or V's but random encounters in VI are nowhere near as dangerous as IV or V's PLUS VI's fleeing mechanics are total shit.

>he doesn't play JRPGs on an emulator with a fast-forward function to speed through random encounters
you're fuckin' up, senpai
>>329586704
That doesn't make it any better.
XIV
>>329586804
i had a blast playing it and the random encounters were never a problem for me because i zipped through the shit, so speak for yourself, blood
Bravley default
>>329582262
Start with 6 or 7, and for the love of satan play/emulate the original versions and not one of the shitty ports.
And yes, ALL the ports of those two games are shit.
>>329582262
VIII.
7 and 9 are overrated, 6, 13 and 14 sucks, 4 and 5 are great, 10 is shit, 12 is good but different, 11 is great but dead(ish),
Start with FF13 so you can be one of those fags who love it because it was there first Final Fantasy.
>Everyone else hates it.
>>329587664
>9 overrated
>6 sucks
...
>reccomends VIII
Holy fucking shit man how much of a shit taste do you have??? you should really get that shit checked by a doctor.
>>329582262
Avoid 1-3 unless you find yourself liking the series, 10 and 13 unless you like linearitymaybe i'm just biased but i personally don't like either, and 11/14 unless you like mmos.
4, 5, 9, 10 anyone that says 6, 7, 8 or 12 has shit taste
>>329587976
release order
for VI, VII, and VIII, how are the PC ports?
>>329589978
shit
>>329589978
VI is shit, VII is decent now, VIII don't know
How are themobileversions?
How are thepsnversions?
>>329591156
Mobile is ass, the sprites are awful and the games are way too overpriced.
>>329582262
Ff is my favorite series, you can't go wrong with any of IV-X, XI and XIV are both mmo so try those if that's what you're into, XII is a little meh, XIII is pretty linear but has an interesting story and some different combat, and I wouldn't play XIII unless you're willing to also play both sequels to close up the story
XIII by far
>>329582262
IV, VI and VII are pretty good places to start. Try VII. X, if graphics are a deal breaker.

I think IV can be a bit hard to be the your first Final Fantasy.
I don't recommend start with any game older than VI
>>329599802
if you play the original SNES version released in the US as FFII, it's super easy and a great place to start
>>329582262
Just play all of them, in any order you want and pick the ones you like the most. Asking people which ones the best will never get you a concrete answer.
>>329599802
IV was my first FF and I loved it, it might very well be my favourite, plus it's very simplistic with enough content to hold peoples interest.

>muh encounter rate
Until you've played SMT I or a game with a similarly bullshit encounter rate, you have not suffered.
Is XI worth playing if I'm already playing XIV?
Also what's wrong with the PC ports for the games? Other than obviously V and VI really weird looking clay sprites.
Maybe I'm strange, but I started with the Dawn of Souls edition of FF1 and 2 as my intro to the series. I like those games because they add more dungeons to them with every release (avoid anything after the PSP version, though).
I didn't have any consoles besides a PS1 and Gamecube at this time, and didn't play FF7 until 2007 (still liked it).
Tried FF9 after that, but the copy I got from Gamestop had fucked-up discs and froze once I got to the Ice Cave on disc 1 every time...
FF3's final dungeon made me dislike that game a lot.
I played FF12 so much that I got the disc all scratched up, even though I never beat it or got very good at the battle system.
I've played FF4 multiple times and have always stopped once I get to the moon.
I beat FF6, but it was the PS1 version on my Vita (the load times didn't stop me liking it).
I recently bought FF8 on my Vita in that recent sale, will try it again. I tried it once on my PSP and remember the attitude of the girl you meet in the intro combined with Squall's attitude being so anime that I stopped right there. Probably will like it, though..
Dissidia was fun, mainly because I love the awkward melodrama. Crisis Core was great for similar reasons, but its segmented structure makes it hard to go back to now, for me at least.
FF may be one of the series where I like nearly every game (ignoring MMOs). Being able to play FF10 on a handheld was why I got a Vita (worth it) and FF15 will be why I get a PS4 (hopefully worth it).
I have Advent Children and Spirits Within (which I know has little to do with FF in the end) on my computer and will watch them for the first time this weekend. Wish me luck!
