honestly kor is the reason im having a hard time finishing this game, hes probably my least favorite main character in the series, hes too fucking one note and his constant kohakuisms only end up making his entire characterization feel shallow, the only times he truly feels like a character is the shit he gives hisui at a few moments but ultimately hes just a bland as fuck less likable version of stahn

Lots of reasons, for one thing there's no cooking. Another is that you keep accumulating items but instead of some mechanic that lets you use all of the garbage items like for synthesis, cooking or some other system, you only use them for fetch quests.
World feels empty, and a lot of times you'll only stare at enemies or finding shiny things on the ground which leads to more items you won't use unless its an equipment
Its a very barebones Tales of game even outside of combat, where as something like Hearts R had lots of things going for it even if you discount combat. You have a world map with actual hidden areas so you're forced to explore it, you have a variety of towns which doesnt feel same-y, there's cooking as well so your items actually feel like theyre going somewhere.

Xillia had so much potential. The amount of thought put behind giving each of the characters fun quirks in combat was great (Milla is a really fun take on the Magic Knight class). But the game is dragged down bad by the fact that it was rushed for an anniversary date. 2 fixes some things but it introduces it's own slew of problems, too. (Why can I only switch out reserve members in town? Why does Ludger always have to be in the active party? Why doesn't Nova just tell me what the next payment cap is and just leave me alone until I want to pay it and move on?)
Ds version is actually way better than the shitty vita port.
