Imagine if Square Enix gave a fuck about us. But let's be serious a western version would fail hard. What they need to do is just have a English language option built into the existing Japanese game so us gaijn could give them a few extra gold coins while costing them very little. I don't know how they still can't see that it's both cheaper and easier to just straight translate the text to english. Change any occasional jokes in 10 when necessary, but leave everything the fuck alone.
Christ, this shit is even WORSE in spanish (ironically), when they change every fucking thing, even character names that are the same in other languages and have appeared in other games. No wonder it takes them forever to localize a single goddamn game, fuck.

A English language option for an existing Japanese game would have to be done in-house in Japan, they couldn't outsource it to the daft cunts who your your American versions because they wouldn't be officially offering non-Japanese service. It'd be badly translated but meme and accent free.

I don't get you 'random encounters are bad' guys. Without random encounters there is no sense of danger in dungeons, no real possibility of you getting fucked because you didn't manage your resources well enough. Moving forward instead of back is no longer a gamble. Random encounters are the only thing that can add excitement to an otherwise thrillless genre of turn-based RPGs.
Honestly, a Dragon Quest without random encounters is just missing half the point,
