I know this is a designated shitposting thread but this is something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
What is it that makes autistic people so attached to Sonic? Almost every hardcore Sonic fanboy I know has at least some form of mild autism, and every autistic person I know loves Sonic.
The story, the characters, and usually the gameplay are all garbage, but they'll usually even like the shitty ones. Is it because he has a lot of friends? Is it because, despite how stupid and annoying he is, his universe treats him like he's the coolest thing around? Like, do they just relate to Sonic and fantasize about being as popular as him? Is it because Sonic has jumped the shark so many times in both story and character design that it intrigues them? Is something about his shape visually pleasant?
What is it about a snarky blue hedgehog that reaches and speaks to autistic people in a way no one else can?

I don't know what it is about Sonic that I love, but I'm not autistic, I do like some of the new stuff but 1, 2, and 3 are the absolute best, awesome music, great graphical design, interesting characters, and fun gameplay. What's not to like?

Sonic's pretty good at capturing the feeling of adventure. Mario games generally play it pretty safe. Sonic was sledding down a mountain trying to save a floating continent from a launching the Death Star into orbit while Mario was trying to save that cunt Peach for the 3rd time.

- Sonic characters lack depth and have simple names that are relate-able to their characteristics.
- The games are designed to practice perfection since all rings are lost when you get damaged and only maximum 20 rings can be picked up to start over your collection.
- You get ranked for your performance at the end so it encourages you to redo levels over and over, which again only autistic people would do.
- Special snowflake characters that could easily be made because none of the characters made have any relationships or are related to one or another so it's easy to make your own OC's and introduce it to the main cast.
In other words the Sonic series could work if they just didn't pander to autists.
