DRAGONS DOGMA

Do you guys have any beginner tips for me?
Is there something you should focus on at the start?
Are there any recommended builds?

what class are you going?

also sell the monocle from the start, its worth a lot of money and unless you want to wear a monocle, is shit.
>>
This is a pure adventure game you really don't want guides for.

Run around at night

Go explore an area you haven't even if you're hesitant

Don't be afraid to jump on a boss or try anything

With that said, you probably would like trying fighter or strider before mage. The game's combat system shines in melee, and while magic is done quite well it is fairly slow to build up to a point where it has variety.
>>
1. don't play hard mode
2. you don't have to stick with one class, you can use other classes' augments if you have unlocked them.
3. eternal ferrystone in your stash afer you reach gran soren
>>
Be sure to finish the quest Lost and Found as soon as you get it. If you continue much further, it will automatically be cancelled, locking out an entire zone and a lengthy quest chain.

There are a few side quests like this.
>>
>>324386864
Equipment matters far more than your base stats. Just play the game and don't be afraid to switch your class.
>>
How's Mystic Knight with staff? I'm just running mace since it seems like shield already takes care of magic damage. The game needs a mod that let me swap equipment on the fly by the press of a button.
>>
>>324387163
I just beat the dragon, and I started on hard mode and stuck to one class. Your tips are shit.
>>
I'm level 23 and been playing mage. It's pretty boring actually. Going to try sorcerer but not sure if I'll enjoy it either as I suspect it'll be more of the same.

Thinking about changing to MK or MA. Which is the fun class here?
>>
>>324387263

Well congratulations. Thing is that the general populace on this board are fucking awful at video games. I guess you are the shiny apple from this bunch.
>>
>>324387284
Any class other than mage is fun. It's more of a support class

Mage is support with a mix of offense, sorcerer is mostly pure offense. It's pretty damn fun, sure you'll have to stay still a while and charge for the strongest spells but it's totally worth it imo.

>>
>>324387284
MA of course. You can double jump and tumble around
>>
>>324386864
Some sidquests get invalidated by story progression, so if you get a sidequest that isn't from a notice board you should probably do it as soon as you can.
Don't be afraid to switch classes.
Minmaxing is mostly pointless, play what you want to play.
Pawn training is the only thing you need a guide for, look it up if they're acting retarded.

>>324387263
Well you fucked up your first playthrough by making it way easier than it should have been and you didn't get to explore a variety of gameplay styles while you were at it, too.
>>
>>
>>324387067

I was paranoid that the monocle was worth so much money.

I thought it was some super special item that I needed later on, and would fuck myself over if I sold it.

It's just a stupid fucking monocle.

Being a sorcerer in post game is such a pain in the ass. Literally every fucking big monster keep interrupting spell castin ALL THE TIME. Getting so fucking sick of this, holy shit.

I used the monocle until I got a full outfit that was a bit better. It seemed like it had pretty good stats. Does it not?

No, your skills depend on the vocation. Augments are what you can carry over to any vocation.

Online Ur dragon is pretty much unkillable by yourself.
It has millions of HP.
Your damage gets added to the damage that everyone else playing is doing to him until he eventually dies.

You get loot depending on how much damage you did and whether you were there when the final blows were dealt.

Enemies in Everfall aren't hard at all. Just trying to cast bigger spells as sorcerer is just garbage, even when possessing Wyrmking ring. I probably should change into Magic Archer to save myself from asspain.

It will definitely make the game trivial. On console, spamming restoration items was a chore because the menus took time to load. On PC, you can even hotkey them. There's no real need to bring a mage anymore when you can just chug spring water indefinitely.

I got unlucky on my first run with the Hydra convoy right outside Grand Soren, it was demoralizing as fuck. The game is great but the frequent difficulty spikes right at the beginning of the game are crazy, especially considering how laid-back the first half-hour or so of the game is (killing goblins, collecting flowers etc.).

I swear the designers did this shit on purpose, I can't believe you can fight those lizard men in the well right at the beginning of the game, it's kind of comical desu.

The eternal ferrystone is a bit over the top.

I understand why they made it in the update since manually traveling after you've had to make tons of trips to Gran Soren can become tedious.

but giving new players a way to fast travel without consequence from basically the beginning can take away from the crazy trips you have early on in the game when you don't know what's around every corner and night fall arrives.

I recommend you start up a steam family account so you don't lose your character. Anyway, if you don't like strength, go yellow (ranger/strider/assassin), they benefit from the same stat.

Also, magic is WAY harder to level. If you can't deal with BBI on a physical character, wait till you try it as a mage or sorc lol
>>
>>324388581
Every sorcerer has that augment in late game, but not all are aware of making counterfeit out of Wyrmking ring and giving that away.

I've hired plenty of shitty guardian pawns when I played the game 3 times over on console, and they still do their job, just not as efficiently. It's hilarious how people have gotten it into their heads that guardians will just stand around doing nothing. They certainly do follow you around, but they also cast healing and status clearing spells just fine.
>>
>>324386864
After you meet the duke, Fornival(the fat noble merchant), will have a quest for you. Before accepting make a checkpoint save. Because it's very easy to mess up this quest, after making a checkpoint follow the daughter around town.(do not touch or carry her it will result in failure).
She'll ask you to do a number of tasks like hide and seek, bringing her water, and a race (let her win).
After the race, the quest will turn and say complete. Talk to the daughter and she'll give you a golden idol. A weapon that unlocks weapon and armor store for either madeline or the caxton. (Consult the wiki for who you should give it too.)
If you get anything other than the gold idol from the daughter, then start the checkpoint save over.

Don't do the hydra head escort quest with Mercedes after beating the short boss fight. Return to starting town and do the quest that involves finding Quina from Witchwood. If you don't you're going to be locked out of few good and plot related side quests.
>Is there something you should focus on at the start?
>Are there any recommended builds?
Just play what class you want. You only start with 3 classes, but unlock 6 more after you reach the main city and can change between them at the inn there. As long as you don't just exclusively play magic classes for 100 levels then switch to physical damage classes or vice versa you can play however you want. Min-maxing only matters if you're going to be grinding the online version of a special optional boss that drops unique holy element weapons, but those are instantly outclassed by regular expansion area gear. Most of your damage and defenses are derived from your gear and equipped augments rather than your character's stats.

Alright then. I'd still recommend sparing your character, when you find out how limited sorcs are, you'll probably quit the game in frustration instead of remaking your physical character.

>>324389221
Yeah, they learn pretty effectively, but note that lots of strider skills arent available to assassins. You can't teach a strider pawn to use helm splitter for example. (He'll still use it though, just not when you instruct him to.)

Also, certain people might accuse her of having a manface because you chose one of the more boxy head shapes.

That being said, it doesn't matter. You can change all of that for free in the post-game. If you like her, that's all that matters. (It's your pawn that you have to get people to like.)

Is it worth to change class when you reach maximum rank with the one you are using? I want to try them all but I've read that your stats scale depending of the class you are using, so it may not be a good idea.
I have used Strider to lvl 16 or so, then Magic Archer until lvl 33 and I'm Sorcerer now with lvl 38; so maybe I'm fucking my character's stats.
>>
>>324389592
Hard is harder, anon's just being a contrarian little dipshit. The thing is, you get more XP and gold, so according to him, faster progression = "easier".

Prepare your anus though, hard more ups damage by 450%, it's gonna hurt.

Finally, BBI is better for difficulty-wanking. That's available from the start, though recommend you're around level 45 before attempting it.

Absolutely, you ought to mix up the classes to get the different augments from each. Stats do scale depending on class, but they have the same total value (except mage)

From what you said, it looks like you're going for a magic character. That's fine. You can also go for a hybrid character, there's no problem. Really, you can level as warrior for 200 levels and then swap and kick ass as a sorcerer, no joke. (Provided you have the right equipment of course.)

Mobs don't have more health. Anyway, 450% increased damage taken means you'll get one-shot from the start. For many people, that's not what you call "easy". If your special snowflake opinion is that it IS, and that money is THAT hard to come by on normal that you can't even equip yourself, then that's fine. But it is unlikely to be shared by most people.

I'll agree with you that hard mode is shit though, the game already has a scaling problem later in the game. Hard mode just exasperates it. Play BBI earlier if you want difficulty.

>>324390548
You'll outscale content easily on normal mode as well, and you won't have any issues with being one-shot. Hard mode has plenty of issues, that we can all agree on, but this idea that hard mode is actually EASIER is just silly in my opinion.
>>
>>324390042
No, you don't understand. I just tried it again, and I got it frenzied and poisoned. All of a sudden, it bolts behind everyone and off the edge. My pawns were passed out and I was reviving them, and one of them actually got carried off by the ogre when it died. What the fuck?
>>
>>324389217

Practice and master perfect blocking. A perfect block results in no damage, and throws small enemies to the ground.

I read that the basic vocation that gets a shield (dont' recall the name) gets an ability that makes that window more lenient?

Oh and does my shield only block what's right in front of me?

Do they block wider for Mystic Knights cause' they have bigger shields?

I don't know, I feel that when there are more than 2 or 3 enemies focusing you (and there should be, right? I mean, I'm the tank!) it gets very hard to block damage.

Even more so if you want a perfect block.

I can guarantee you the PC version won't change shit by itself, no publisher judges the viability of a sequel based off of the sales of a late port to an untested platform. Either Capcom just needed a quick buck, or they're already working on relaunching the franchise and this was part of it.
>>
I'm probably halfway through the game and enjoying switching classes and trying everything.
How realistic is maxing every class? Will I have to grind the shit out of respawning enemies if I want to try out everything? Should I just stick to one advanced vocation and max it out until the end of the game?
>>
>>324391491
