Warlock crypt in Stormwind and Darnassus were my favorite places to hang out, I even had my bank alt stationed in Darn. As far as actual zones go I liked Ashenvale and Duskwood.

I loved that zone past TBC, I love spoopy and gloomy zones. During Vanilla, you would get obliterated near Kara, during TBC there was constant 24/7 PVP massacre there, but afterwards no one even passed trough it, making it gloomy and deserted again.

For me, it was my first mmo (other than planetside 1 for about a week), so that alone was a big part. I had never played an rpg where you could find people randomly in the huge ass world, so that was cool. I love the art style as well. Played for about 8 months right when it came out then had to stop because I went to boot camp. Played one more time for maybe a year around when wotlk came out and stopped a few months into Cata. Cata was cool from the standpoint of it changing a lot of things up, but it also ruined some of my favorite zones. Namely Dun Murogh.

I never finished in vanilla either, but I did finish it later at the right level. I had a prot warrior alt that I only leveled using the dungeon finder and I knew BRD inside and out, I knew every single boss and people loved me when I would run BRD. I got compliments from people that running the whole dungeon was some of the best fun they had playing WoW and it made me feel very warm inside.

It was easy to get into, which would lead to ease of interaction with other people, which would lead to ease of making friends.
The world felt massive before full-world flying and dungeon queues came along, and with the ease of interaction/friendmaking already in-place, you could pretty much go on adventures just getting from a main city to a particular dungeon that you wanted to run that day.
Scarlet Monastary and you're a human in Stormwind? Well first gather up your party of friends/strangers, fly up to the closest taxi drop-off you can (not full-world flying), then trek from there through a forest that had monsters that might hurt a little, and players that could hurt a lot. You're almost there, but just remember, Scarlet Monastary is kinda close to the Undead main city, and a lot of enemy faction players hang out there, so stay on your toes. Alright, you've made it, now get into SM by walking into the hallways full of either NPC enemies, or opposing faction players and run into the dungeon portal.
Good job! Now run the dungeon.

You weren't supposed to do a full run if you didn't want to. You could stop after the first few bosses if you were in your mid fifties and you could skip more than half of the dungeon between optional bosses and shortcuts that required keys.
Also i suspect brd was supposed to be an elite-only area but was converted into a dungeon after the alpha, just like Stratholme.

Best memory of PS1 was on the snow continent at a giant ass bridge. I was NC, TR across the way. Both sides literally set up siege lines of tanks and MAXs just exchanging fire. Some poor souls would try to drive across the bridge, who knows why. Someone organized about 20 of us together and we took liberators and reavers (about 12 vehicles in total). We took a long route not to be detected and carpet bombed them to fuck. I don't remember the outcome of the battle, but we sure wrecked them on those strafing runs and I had a blast.

I was a bit disappointed the world pvp wasn't bigger than it was when I played in vanilla. Tarren mill was the only place that did it that I found. And it was every day. BGs were kind of lame, especially when the introduced whatever pvp stat there was. I'd have a full set of it and still get destroyed. I never understood it.

It's usually not worth it, once you get two or so characters to the level cap you realize it's just gonna be more of the same shit for weeks and weeks until you get bored and stop.
The current endgame model has you running like four different versions of the same raid week after week. Once you've got enough gear from the first one, you move on to the second one and so on
By the time you make it to the point where you're geared enough for the hardest version of the raid, you've already been through the place too many times and it's boring as fuck

I started playing again last month since quitting back in 2008 and I think it's okay. The demands raid groups have for ilvl and achievments is fucking absurd though, so you'll probably have to LFR all the raid content and it's not even the same experience at that point. Battlegrounds ruined it though. blizzard should have just kept the game to where you did pve to get gear then played around with it by trolling the enemy in world pvp or fought over rare spawns like the devilsaurs in ungoro crater. That's what mmo pvp should be; players fighting over pve elements that fuel the player run economy. Not the instanced master league gamer garbage that it is now.

you get to it and think oh it's just a wizard tower. then it just sprawls and sprawls. look here are the stables and kitchens. here are the dining halls and concubine rooms. here is the theatre. holy shit this place has a giant fucking museum. libraries, books upon books. dark rituals taking place in corners. an astronomy room with a giant dragon inside. huge chess set with live beings playing. heck as you go further up the place starts falling apart with tons of ethereal type shit falling out of rifts. only ulduar hit that same level of wonder and discovery.

Barrens chat was shit. The best thing about Barrens was defending Crossroads against Alliance raids. It was also a comfy as fuck zone to level my orc warrior in. That first time you climbed a huge mountain and looked to the distance. Granted the draw distance wasn't the greatest but still a great feeling.

I never "played" WoW (because I aint payin every month for a game) but I spent many hours explorating its world with the free version
As it only goes to level 20, I had very hard times when travelling across high level areas
I tried to avoid enemies as much as possible, but sometimes I had to pass among them and it would take me dozens of minutes to slowly pass them with the combo travelling to place of death with the ghost, resurrecting and trying to advance as much as possible before next death

This was before they removed hit chance. Secondary stats at level 10 scaled like mad. Just putting one pyrium weapon chain on your offhand made it so you could hit level 70s without ever missing, though the highest a level 10's ever killed is a level 60 player.

As of right now, there really isn't going to be any new content until Legion, and that's still months away with a release date planned in September. Other than the arduous legendary ring quest, raiding, and PvP, there's nothing to come back for unless you plan on doing old world content, or perhapsRP, and even then there isn't a whole lot of actual goodRP.
Though I'm a bit cynical, and coming back to the game after so long can actually be rather fun. I did the same thing a few months back. I stopped playing near the beginning of WoD and came back for Hellfire Citadel and enjoyed myself for a bit, but then I ran out of things to keep my interest, and while I've tried to level a few alts, the only ones I have now are 90+ and require leveling through Draenor, which is undoubtedly the worst leveling experience as of right now. Even MoP leveling didn't get this bad after a few alts.
I really do hope the wait for Legion will be worth it, and I hope it'll help breath some new life into the game, but I'm at the end of my ropes here, and if Legion ends up the same as WoD, I think I might finally let my characters rest.
