Golden is weird. Some parts are really easy but a lot of the boss fights are changed up that make them way more difficult than the original game.
Right now I'm stuck on shadow teddie because I was expecting to fly right through the fight like the original game. If you had Unicorn (ice immune) you could just auto-battle him until you got the 2 turn warning for his instant kill but now that he actually fights back I'm woefully unprepared because I hardly did any grinding and on extreme difficulty I don't know how much I can even fix with just one day to level up.

Piston Honda is this in Punch-Out. He's the first boxer to put up a fight, and several ones after him have easy gimmicks to make sure you know all the moves for the final circuit (For example, Great Tiger seems hard but he's really just there to remind you that you have a block button)

Serious question, how can a turn-based RPG ever have actual difficulty to the point where there are casual filters?
I can understand action games having casual filters. You are forced to get good because you can't just level up to the point where you have defenses and attack power that can overwhelm the casual filter. You have to learn the enemy mechanic and be competent at the gameplay.
In a turn-based RPG like Persona or Final Fantasy? You can bypass any challenge by simply grinding. A boss giving you trouble? Spend some time grinding and come back when you're 5-6 levels higher. The boss immediately ceases to become challenging.

Shadow Teddie is probably one of the longest battles in the game, but he's not really hard. His AI follows a really obvious pattern and avoids fucking you up when he could easily wipe out the party.

The first playthrough against it was hell, but it was a good teaching method on how to git gud at the game as each restart taught you something new about the game's mechanics.
First step was learning to not put your tank's back to the enemy, then actually using lancers other than Largo, then learning how to use lancers, then figuring out how to keep your scouts alive in crossfire, then issuing orders, then learning not to deploy all your forces and holding spots for tactical reinforcements....
Then when you made progress... you were rewarded with Selvaria coming from right field and mowing down your entire squad in a single turn from across the map as you realize the importance of hiding behind cover and taking out the left-hand reactor before the other two.
