The Codex Astartes is a set of rules. They guide us....shape us as Ultramarines...teach us how to hold duty and honor sacred above all. But how we live with those rules is the true test of a Space Marine.

And you have failed.

He sold his superior, his sworn battle brother, to outside forces. He's a traitor to his genes and to his Primarch. You don't go tattling to the Inquisition, you tell your Chapter Master and keep your problems in house.
>>
>>324031263
This.

Titus had no signs of corruption and Leandros betrayed his own chapter by turning him in. Little faggot was too much of a rookie to even be on that mission - dude couldn't stop talking about the fucking Codex for five seconds.

Sidonus died instead of this cunt.

Let that sink in.

Except, you know, risking literally an entire company, if not the entire chapter of the Ultramarines by crying to the Inquisition instead of consulting a chaplain. Really though, I can't help but feel that that was more either incompetent writing or just straight up disregarding the fluff of 40K in terms of how loyalist space marines actually properly deal with the risk of potential Chaos corruption within their ranks.
>>
>>324030737
The retard didn't even read the Codex Astartes, space marines are supposed to turn in suspected marines to their chapter chaplain
>>
>>324031863
I think it was lazy writing because they somehow needed to get Titus into the hands of the Inquisition for their sequel hook.

Well it might as well be deliberate

In DoW2 the blood ravens didn't go crying to the Inquisition because one of their battle brothers became corrupted. They also didn't go crying to them when Kyras turned out to be in the cahoots with Khorne. What did they do? They smacked traitors in the face, sent possible corrupted battle brothers in a penitence crusade and then smacked their CM in the face and prevented an Exterminatus

I actually think it was Relic taking the piss at Matt Ward. Portraying a younger Ultramarine obsessed with the codex astartes as incompetent, inexperienced, naive, and over all a negative force.

Keep in mind Relic was staffed by people who really understood 40k and were also fans of the series, enough that a few of them posted on /tg/ way back in the day.
>>
>>324032881

Did that dude die?
>>
>>324033613
>I actually think it was Relic taking the piss at Matt Ward

It's my head canon now, Matt has done more damage to the space marines than the Horus heresy itself.
>>
>>324033613
Most likely. The way Ward portrays the Ultramarines is fucking retarded and Leandros is pretty much exactly what a Wardian UM would be like - a rigid, naive idiot who can't change his combat strategy or think on his own.

If Leandros were in charge of the attack on Graia they would've been shot down before they even got to the surface because muh codex.
>>
>>324030737
Even if you thought Titus was corrupted, he massively fucked up by making it an Inquisitorial matter. It should have gone to the Chapter Chaplain and Librarian first and ended there. None of the First Founding wants to bother with the Inquisition.
>>
>>324033304
>>324033532
The chapter would definitely have noticed if he was a blank. Only 1000 soldiers per chapter means you can afford to look closely. One of the more common theories is that he is favored by Khorne, whether he knows it or not, and that's why he heals from executions (extremely bloody kills) and is able to fuck magic.
>>
>>324034918
Or it's just a video game and you're thinking far too much into it.
>>
>>324034918
Pretty sure that what's called a game mechanic. It didn't have an impact on the story.
>>
>>324034918
It's possible he was favored by Khorne, but I doubt it. He never seemed to revel in carnage - he just viewed it as necessary to get the job done.

It's possible he's a blank but like you said, they'd have found out by now. 1,000 marines per chapter and the fact that he's been in active combat for over 200 years means it would have come up at some point.

I got some questions /v/.

I just finish chaos rising and started playing retribution and why Thaddeus is the canon traitor alongside Avitus? Shouldnt be Avitus and Martellus? Or is just because they need to make space for Diomedes as the assault marine?
>>
>>324036379

Canon is the 50% corruption ending where Avitus is traitor, but the force commander and Thaddeus get sent by Gabriel into a penitence crusade to atone for certain heretical actions
>>
>>324036379
Thad wasn't a traitor, him and Force Commander Vanilla Ice are just off on a penance crusade, possibly out of shame of not realising their battle brother was a corrupted traitor.

>>
>>324036736
>>324036826
IIRC, the part about Vanilla Ice and Thaddeus was never confirmed, just assumed.
Even in the pure ending, Gabriel makes it fairly clear that Kyras will want their asses on a platter and tells you to wait until he gives the word, so they might have just been hiding.
Given that Tarkus and Cyrus were also in hiding, it's possible that Thaddeus and Vanilla Ice either didn't get the message, or didn't get to the fighting in time.

Force Commander and Thads fate is mostly assumed from dialogue in Retribution.

>Given that Tarkus and Cyrus were also in hiding
Tarkus isn't hiding anywhere, he's just taken a vow of silence. He's the ancient in Retribution.
>>
>>324037908
I know about the spoiler, but it can be inferred that he assumed a new identity partly to stay in hiding.
He could have just taken the vow of silence and kept the name otherwise.
>>
>>324038090
Ancient is a title assumed by Chapter standard bearers, like Ancient Helveticus of the Smurfs. He probably didn't assume a new name.
>>
>>324037197
>misinterpreted his own Primarch's guidelines

Well the Ultras as a whole did this by seeing the Codex as a holy tome rather than a big book o suggestions and useful tactics.

Titus saw it as the latter and was pragmatic when it was required.
>>
>>324037764
how in the ass did they manage to get a custodes armor? The blood ravens are the gypsies of space marines
>>
>>324038962
They've also got a Custodes heavy flamer. I can't help but feel that the two might have been "gifted" together.
>>
>>324038962
In all seriousness, it was probably from when the Custodes fought alongside the legions in the great crusade.
The Thousand Sons could have pulled off the heist when they were loyal, given their skills in divination and the ones who did happened to be the ones who went into the corvidae cult. The bit about it being present during the showdown was probably made up.

not settled as such, but the only way it isn't the Thousand Sons is if someone pulls an incredibly retarded retcon.

As it stands, they have
1) Identical divination based battle strategy, save for less mindbullets involved
2) an abundance of psykers and identical recruitment tactics
3) a splinter faction called the corvidae (which translates to Raven) cult that went out on their own just before the heresy
4) Abbadon being particularly interested in them, implying that he's buttflustered about a traitor legion having a loyal splinter
5) Eliphas giving hints out the ass
6) A prophecy stating that the future of the Thousand Sons involves a Raven of Blood. The author who wrote it actually apologised for making it too obvious.

While it is possible that it's the most elaborate red herring ever devised, it would be Stephanie Myer tier bad writing to do so.
A red herring is supposed to be an implication, not shouting IT IS X! IT IS! then saying ACTUALLY NO, WHAT A TWEEST!

This is truth. What I dont get is that they are always going on about "accesability" and how the wargame market is dying yet they could simply release a type of "quickgame" ruleset that simplifies the game for quick 15 minute matches. Put out small battle box sets with this new rule book at a reasonable price and you expand the hobby.

Id basically just copy the system that was made for that Army Men game. I cant recall the name but its for battles for the little plastic army men you can buy at the drugstore. Its very simple and can be played in 10-15 minute sets. They would also move more product by opening up a new manufacturing plant in the US. Prices of models could go down but overall profit would go up because you get around exporting from Bongistan to the American market.
>>
>>324040928
Second Company isn't veteran, it's just second company, a standard battle company like 3rd, 4th and 5th. They take marines out of the reserve companies as and when they need them to fill dead mens shoes, or those who have been inducted into 1st company.

That would be a great way to actually create interest in the hobby too, since the average 40K game requires an entire day off to accomplish. A short, smaller-scale skirmish variant with cheaper models and a more adequate rule system would be just what GW needs to push product and get the numbers they want.

SJW wants to shove his pronouns into an established setting and says there is no reason not to, claims that the lore that only men can be made space marines because the Emperor is male and geneseed is based on hsi genetic makeup isnt an argument because its science fiction fantasy.

Why do these people believe that? I FUCKING HATE the argument that just because something isn't real it can be anything you want. The universe has consistent rules and ideas. You cant just suddenly say Space Marines can be female. The established setting is that they cannot. Its just like the faggots wanting blacks and women to feature more heavily in medieval era games. Fuck nigger its the medieval period, it doesn't matter if its fantasy medieval or not. ITS THE FUCKING MEDIEVAL AGES. Your fight for women's rights is just going to get you burned at the fucking stake you god damn heretic.

The whole fucking point of these settings half the time is to show how utterly barbaric and inhuman it is. 40k is barbaric, its inhuman, human suffering has surpassed any possible understanding that we could have. Its a fucking setting where you as an individual hold NO VALUE. At all. Billions die across the galaxy in minutes, uncountable worlds are locked in wars that would devestate our planet ten times over. The common man is an oppressed serf who is mouth frorthingly religious, who eats soylent green while working 16 hour shifts to make the buttons for the coats of the Imperial guard.

Part of me is glad gamesworkshop never changes and doesnt listen to anyone but themselves. Because they will never kowtow to this insane bullshit.

Fortunately, the one saving grace of GW is that they utterly ignore SJW shit.
They know what sells, they know their audience, and they certainly won't risk fucking up the gold mine they're sitting on for the sake of people that aren't even their demographic.

If it weren't for them being one of the biggest crowd of jews in the business world, they'd actually be pretty based.

The original game was supposed to be even bigger. You were supposed to have 4 different space marines to play (devastator, tactical, assault and idk chaplain or something).

It was supposed to have dow2 style leveling and equipment customization options.

Each marine had their own campaign / parts to the whole campaign.

It was still a good game, but it could have been so much more.

Night lords triology

Shira Calpurnia omnibus. Even though it's mostly just politicking within the imperium the second novel is fucking awesome. Shira Calpurnia an arbites officer with some distant tie to a space marine in her family is told that she gets to preside over the transfer of an ancient rogue trader charter... that was signed by the emperor himself, and dotted with his blood. Her lieutenant fucking hyperventilates himself to unconciousness when he hears about this, the local ecclesiarchy tries to confiscate the charter because it's y'know a holy relic of the emperors life. The mechanicus gets involved and I believe even the inquisition shows up too. It's entertaining as fuck to see a planet basically rip itself apart over a 10 000 year old paper with the signature and a drop of blood from the emperor on it.

it's even more interesting when you see what this paper can do to daemons

Avoid anything by c.s.goto, he's a hack.

Every time he goes into super-mode he yells something about serving the Emperor or whatever. What if he's favored by the Emperor? Dawn of War and winter assault have actual campaigns.

Dow is space marine centric
Winter assault has guardsmen, eldar, chaos and ork campaigns.

Dark crusade shifts to a province control type game with much less story, but 7 playable races (it adds necrons and tau, which are pretty bland due to the ruleset of 40k when the game was made). It's fun, but it's also painfully simple.

Soulstorm adds two more races (albiet fucking awfully balanced ones), keeps the dark crusade formula, has some quality of life improvements for some races, but also makes other things like province defense more tedious.

Throughout the whole dawn of war 1 series, eldar are unbelievably fucking overpowered and succeeded in a forum campaign on relic to get other races nerfed and their own race buffed.

The game is an alternate universe. The fluff doesn't match up and there are weapons in the game not supported by GW (I think the example is the Nade Launcher which Relic had to beg GW to let them use, even in an alt universe). GW seems to let people do Alt Universes a lot more. Age of Reckoning was alt universe, for example. Warhammer Total War isn't alt universe, it's just between 2502 and 2515.

The DoW and WA are more traditional campaigns.

The DC and SS are Risk-like ones.

>>324059835
Sisters are also unbelievably weak in SS.

RagingHeroes is doing Proxy SoB (which are insane) as well as Proxy Sisters of Sigmar.

There is a unit in these called Knights of the Chalice. They're essentially Terminator Armoured SoB with Sword + Shield. They look amazing in art, but they don't have the money to make them look good in models...

I've bought about $130 worth thou. Well, I have $130 to spend on them when they're fully done.

The DoW campaign is about the spehhs mahreens. It's its own little thing and even when some things don't make sense fluff-wise, it's still fun to play through. WA is a hit or miss. Some people love it, some hate it. It's IG simulator, take that as you will

Dark Crusade and Soulstorm are risk-like campaigns, basically you just play skirmishes in all of them with the exception of some areas that have specific objectives and the stronghold missions which are really fun. The best part about DC is the banter you get from all the commanders

Soulstorm is the same campaign format from DC but it's shit, don't play it.

A lot of people hate DoW2 for no reason, but the campaigns in it are really fun. Chaos Rising is the best. I think I actually like the DoW2 campaigns more than the DoW1 campaigns
>>
>>324059951
It does, just not for Marines standard weapons. Imperial Guard do. Some Space Marine Bikes do. There is no handheld one for SM's.
>>
>>324059836
>(I think the example is the Nade Launcher which Relic had to beg GW to let them use, even in an alt universe)
Third parties come up with new weapons for 40k is nothing new. They probably showed it to their GW relations guy, explained about where it came from and what it does and then put it in after he said 'yeah, ok then'.

I finished my first playthrough of it yesterday and Avitus turned out to be the traitor. Figures I suppose

doing Retribution right now, but I'm doing the campaign with the Orks since they're just so much fucking fun
>>
>>324060240
The thing I hate about DoW2 Chaos Rising, is it's very hard to make a single unit get high corruption and nobody else. It's either everybody or nobody. The only way to reduce it is with reducation gear, which outright nerfs you. Since corruption gear needs specific levels of corruption to be equipable.

However, I enjoyed them more than DoW1, despite DoW1's amazing VA. Retribution is the best for me though. Plenty of factions, playing as Nids was cool as fuck, the loot is fun and getting units and their upgrades instead of loot was also fun in it's own right. Ork Campaign and IG campaign were the best.

>even though the proper procedure IN THE CODEX is to report him to the head Chaplain/Chapter Master
Leandros was wrong by the standards of his own goddamn book.
>>
>>324060240
Dark Crusade and Soulstorm are more multiplayer-oriented, right? I'm not that experienced in the RTS genre so for now I'd settle for a fun campaign. Looks like I'll buy DoW GOTY and see if I like it, I appreciate the info man

You must remembering things wrong because they were at least mid-tier.
Celestian were the 2nd best AV infantry right behind Fire Dragon.
Seraphim were amazing harrasser.
Penitent Engine was straight up the best walker of the game.
Battle Sisters squad are SM squad with less HP and option.
Repentia were also one of the best melee units.
>>
>>324060535
Dude what

It's super easy to get 0% corruption for all your squads. You just need to do the optional purity objectives in missions if any of your squads has corruption you don't want

Also, to corrupt a specific squad just give them some corrupted piece of gear and take them on missions. It's that simple
>>
>>324060532
Canonically, Avitus was considered the traitor I think.
>>324060535
Retribution was fun in its own way, making your squad the most overpowered thing was always fun to see
>Plague Champion infects a squad, infection spreads, you can manually detonate infected squads, that cause zombies, rinse repeat
>Commissar Lord execute can make your squad invulnerable and deal more damage, beat the entire game with an army of guardsmen
>>
>>324060401
Cyrus can equip one in Chaos Rising.

>>324060374
I hate trying to make Avitus the guy. I just can't bring myself to get corruption and it sucks there is no easy way to tip him over the edge while leaving everybody else normal. Also, at Lv.24 you can easily get 3000+ Range DPS with him, making him insane against everything bar vehicles.
>>
>Jonah dies no matter what.
>>
>>324060532
Avitus is the canon traitor, but the game always picks the person with the highest corruption (who isn't Hairgel). If everybody has 0 corruption, then it's Martellus.

>>324060706
That's exactly what I said. Re-read what I said again. I said it's very hard to make a single unit get high corruption and nobody else. It's either everybody or nobody.

I once thought about these as something like very bulky Power Armors with tiny shrines on their back.

Then again there is pic related. Everything is fine...except for the chest.

DoW series is the benchmark for vidya VA work. Outside SS, there's not a single one with multiple outstanding performances.
I've no idea why portal gets jacked off constantly for VA work despite being outclassed so readily
>>
>>324031263
this

leandros is a retarded faggot

on the other hand, the whole game is a kick in the nuts for what concerns lore
>>
>>324060983
wut

no dude that's what I was trying to explain to you. If you want to corrupt a single unit you can give them corrupted gear and take them on missions. It's a no brainer. You can only use purity wargear if you're at 0% corruption, not the other way around. Using corrupted gear doesn't require any level of corruption beforehand
>>
>>324061138
Grey Knights and the Chaplain are probably the best voiced units in the entire series.

The Chaos Announcer in DOWII is probably my favorite though.

The eldar announcer has a sick line when you upgrade a tier

That's why Jonas is the best traitor because he didn't really betray you and show ghis loyalty beyond death.
