Play it on ds, though it's simple and doesn't need touch controls, so could probably emulate it. Play Explorers of sky for bonus extra story missions with side characters. It's a fairly easy game, but it shines in how wonderfully simple the story is. It's worth playing if you have time to kill

That's the point though. John WAS a criminal, John HAD done terrible things in his life, in his youth. He realizes this, and without trying to rationalize or justify that fact, he tries to make amends, not for his sake, but that of his son.
There may have been a decent human being somewhere in there, but in practice John was outwardly violent when it suited him. The theme - REDEMPTION - comes into play at that moment, when he willingly dies (thus paying for his past crimes with blood) in the hopes that his son would lead a better life than he.
Unfortunately, this is all for naught, as Jack quickly begins to follow in his late father's footsteps, murdering his father's killer.
That's the great irony - everything you do in the game is ultimately futile; John dies in vain.

Jack was just doing what John tried to do: enact justice in the death throes of the wild west. Ross was a murderer and Jack wanted to get his revenge because he pretty much deserved it, especially since he was completely unapologetic about killing John. maybe you're right in that the cycle will just begin anew as every generation is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the last, but i don't think John died in vain.

Pretty much every single person and boss dies or meets a bad end in Dark Souls as you follow their quests. Sif, Artorias, Queelag, Queelag's sister, Priscilla, Onionbro, Rhea - they all get it pretty badly, But at least Dusk gets out okay, AND survives the DLC.

I have never shed a tear when vidya gaming. I guess it's because autists (game devs) don't know how to portray emotions or captivating story.
Lyon's story from FE8
though I was a young teen back then, it was pretty cheesy now that I think about it. But still I cried
I marathoned the Xenosaga games a couple years ago, and Jin's death literally had me sobbing

>Find blueprints to help the carpet mill owner increase productivity
>It puts his workers out of a job
>Meet a charming starving artist
>Buy his works at every chance
>Help him become a teacher at the very school he was taught
>Gets accused of plagiarism and runs away
>Tries to lie low at home, but can't focus
>Wanders into the desert and dies, making one last painting
>Main story sees reveals the love's interest's band leader and another friend trying to burn down the whole country
>One gets shot and dies in the other's arms
>You find out the leader was executed for treason
>The band's violinist spends most of his days literally under a bridge in likely a drunken haze
And all while bearing a Ghibli-like aesthetic. If it weren't for the fact the man hates videos games, Miyazaki would probably love it.
