In general as a mod or admin you run across so many goddamn idiotic or straight up malicious users it's really hard to not fall into the mindset of "ban them all and let god sort them out".
Good online communities have methods for preventing this so you have to learn to identify this behavior in yourself and take a breather from time to time or you get canned for being a shitty admin. Most game servers don't have checks against abuse of power and suffer accordingly.

You also run into a lot of goddamn idiotic mods/admins that can't tell when a user is being malicious or not, and a lot of straight up malicious mods/admins that care if someone's an idiot, they just wanna ban something.

Take twitch.tv as an example. You get banned from a channel, damn near close to 100% of people say "What did you do wrong?", not "What did the admin do wrong?". They assume the admins are always correct, when (in my experience) the admins couldn't tell disrespect from respect from their own assholes.
Honestly, if you just let the griefers and retards do what they want, they turn the server into their own self-imposed hell. It's more amusing that way, watching them wreck themselves. Sort of like how people, when given the chance, will rage themselves into a salty frenzy over politics and relationship drama.

It really isn't. I mean, the game has great potential as a Station vs. Traitors game, but it inevitably devolves into people bitching at the admin about whether someone is "meta" or "valid", and whoever whines at the admin most effectively wins.
But playing the "Who can bullshit the Admin the hardest" game is apparently NOT metagaming, though calling the shuttle and recalling it to check the roundtype IS metagaming, because one uses in-game information that your character has access to, and the other relies on breaking the 4th wall and knowing that admins are watching your character. The one that breaks the 4th wall is "valid".

In Red Orchestra 2, I was permanently banned from the most popular server at the time for asking the admins why "nazi", among every cuss word, was censored in the chat. A mod said something like "don't argue with the admin's decisions" and when I said how fucking stupid having a word filter in this game with gore and blood curdling gruesome death cries, let alone word filtering the fucking word NAZI in a game where you can play as the fucking NAZIS, I was swiftly banned.
Clan servers are so fucking retarded. I was pretty bummed out of it too because at the time, the game wasn't particularly alive and it was the only really active server for NA.

Had two friend get all their shit stolen because a mod intentionally stalked and turned off their claims as one of them was gone longer than 14 days, even though the other was still using the claim. Then told two 14 year olds where they lived so they could steal everything there, when the normal procedure is let people find it and raid it on their own. They lived really out of the way, so it'd be next to impossible to find it.
The mod got called out on this, so he at least replaced all the stuff he personally took. But later claimed the stuff the other two kids took as "not his problem", even though he was the one that started the problem to begin with.
Overall group of friends were also blamed for one of the admins getting banned, which pissed off a number of people as they were super-duper friends with them or something. The honest truth is he was a giant asshole and got caught threatening to ban a dude for not immediately agreeing on the "no automatic farms" rule on a forum and just absolutely exploded on the dude.
Out of the staff there, only one mod there actually said this shit wasn't cool and one admin out of the three actually gave a shit.
Then the server restarted maps for the third time because they can't maintain servers whatsoever, so all progress made on cities and such vanished again.
Server is still active, but the userbase keeps dwindling down because people don't want to have to reconstruct everything due to bad management.

There are generally 2 based guys in a given round that roleplay and help other characters,5-10 or so normal players, and then there are always 3 or so fags that think the other players are just extras that exist for their amusement.

This I disagree on, if I'm trapped in my lab unable to move because Space Lube is coating every inch of my floor, then I'm in danger and have a real problem on my hands.
This is doubly so if the only thing I have on me are lethal weapons. I can't exactly go ask for advanced energy guns and handcuffs, so the best I can do is make use of what I have.

They moved the goalposts and said that my new topic was "in the same area" as my old topic.
I told them that they don't get to do that. I didn't break a rule -> not my problem.
They accused me of being disrespectful.
I told them that I was being respectful and discussing the matter calmly with them, and trusting that they could handle discussion like mature adults instead of flipping their shit like children.
They implied that insults were a form of disrespect, to which I replied "the guy was obviously OK with insults, since he insulted me. I am respecting his preferences." and once again tried to apply their bullshit definition of respect on me.
I told them their definition of respect was flat out wrong, and that they should clear up their definitions, since people following rules doesn't work on ESP.
Though I agreed to follow their goalpost-moving "I can't tell what respect is" bullshit once.
Then they tried that shit on me again.
I flatly refused, and told them I'd continue discussing as I was, since I'd put up with their misjudgement and false positives and goalpost-moving and vague definitions enough.
I told the admins to stand down and stop overusing their power.
The channel owner came in and essentially told me that he could run his channel as a dictatorship and I could take it or leave it
I retorted that he was running his channel incorrectly, and I figured that my advice on how he could run his channel better would allow the channel to change for the better.
He then said that people rarely like advice if it's shoved in their faces
