Who's ready for the industry changing game 'Cancer Simulator 2016'?

I spent 5 years of my childhood dealing with cancer and still deal with the side effects. Why would I play this?
>>
Dying to play this.
>>
I hope this isn't another Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Namely, an extremely pretentious, award-baiting yet incredibly mediocre work that is immune to criticism because it covers sensitive subject matter.
>>
>>323975069
The creator is a really humble guy who's making this from personal experience. It's a love letter to his son about what they went through as a family.

The dev isn't up his own ass and trying to be pretentious so there's that at least. Sure, the game may end up feeling that way because of the subject matter and shit but it won't be deliberate.
>>
>>323974784
This is for people who haven't had a cancer experience to play so that they can say they know how cancer feels

>Yeah I share your pain brah. I haven't had someone die from cancer but I -did- play a vidya gaem about it so we're basically the same.
>>
>>323974489
why is the game named so awkwardly
>>
>>323975069
Apparently it's based off his experiences with his own dying son. It's quite well done from what I can tell, but I wouldn't recommend buying it unless you want a semi interactive movie pretty much designed for this guys relatives.

>You must be brave to play this game!

How about we're not fucking interested in playing a cancer simulator?

>Video games can be ART! Video games can be ART!

Well, this is what you get when your medium is flooded with wannabe ''artists'' instead of people who just want to make a good game.
>>
I forgot I backed this after a very pleasant interaction with the guy behind it. Downloading it now.
>>
>>323974489
A prime example of why I think games should be considered more as engineering projects than art pieces.

>>
>>323974489

I don't want to play a game about some douche being sad about his cancer baby, unless I get to play as the cancer and fight my way through 16 brutal stages of wicked organ-slaying action.
>>
is there anything about the game design that's going to reflect its themes or is it like how some movies are just made to win academy awards because they know about the nuances and tastes of a particular circle of people?
>>
this shit is oscar bait
>>
Literally cancer.
>>
>>323976546
It's Polygon/RPS/Kotaku/insert shitty libfag site that reviews games-bait, and everybody who complains about it is a shitlord asshole who probably supports Gamergate.

>vicious resource management sim where you manage the cellular logistics in a war of attrition against cancer
>can eventually fight to the point where you're declared "cancer free"
>random remissions and metastases ensure you never win
>>
isn't this about a 4 year old with cancer? That's pretty sad, but isn't it sadder get cancer at say 16 or mid 20's? A 4 year old hasn't even experienced anything to really remember. Meanwhile the mid 20's guy can comprehend love, family, and life in ways the 4 year old can't even begin to comprehend.
>>
>>323977116
It's from the perspective of someone watching a four-year-old die, I think.
>>
Why do people still insist that video games can ever be art? They're toys, nothing more.
>>
>change the medium
When did video games turn into some art majors showpiece instead of being a video game
>>
>That Dragon, Cancer

What does this phrase even mean?

Is the Dragon a cancer?

Is he telling Cancer that's the dragon?

It's clearly another non-game walking simulator, BUT I believe the subject matter is tasteful enough that it's a worthwhile project. It's not pseudofeminist identity politics propaganda, but a heartfelt parent-child tale that's using the medium of games as a method to increase emotional engagement. At least that's what it looks like to me.

Yes, that guy is the dev. Also, he supports GG and is a hardcore conservative Christfag, so there's nothing to attack other than the distastefulness of selling a game about your son's death and not giving any of the proceeds to charity or cancer research. SJW's don't know what to do with themselves because it's not a typical feminist/LGBT indie walking sim, has a heavy handed religious message, yet they are tripping over themselves trying to defend it from literally nothing in order to not look like hypocrites. It's hysterical.

Yes, it's actually him

Honestly, this game isn't pretentious. It's just a guy who made something interactive based on something he actually experienced.

I think this one project actually has a right to exist even if it's not up our alley.

The only thing that's cancerous is how the gaming press will frame this

I know the creator of the game suffered a terrible loss but I think he expressed himself in a way that some might not really want to experience.
Regardless or not of how poignant and touching this game is, people don't want to play a game about losing their kid to cancer.
Also, the graphics look VERY similar to Catlateral Damage's graphics. I'm guessing they're in the same engine?

Even if smoking didn't actually lower your longevity, there is absolutely no sane reason to do it. If you think all the bullshit you're inhaling only hits when you've reached 69, you're a fool. It seriously reduces the quality of your life no matter what early age you inevitably painfully die. For example, everyone who smokes will inevitably suffer from nicotine withdrawal for most of the day, which leads to considerable feelings of discomfort and anxiety. That safe, secure, cozy feeling you get when you finally light your cigarette after four torturous hours without one? That's how non-smokers feel literally all the time.

>tfw I've lost 3 family members to cancer
>tfw I'm losing a fourth to it

I'm not offended over this game because that's retarded but like hell am I ever gonna play it. The entire thing reeks of trying to cash in on people's feelings and hiding behind "muh art" when people call out how shit of an idea it is.

It's literally the exact opposite of Hatred - just as crass and everything wrong with games, but on the other end of the spectrum.
>>
Sounds like this game is pure cancer

Cancer treatment is absurdly expensive and can put people in debt easily.
The only reason he's making keeping the revenues from this is so he can earn some money back on the ridiculous amount he invested in it. He might not even profit from it.
I don't like the style this game is in but I'm kind of glad it exists. Nobody asked for it to exist and there was no demand for it. There is no pandering to any group in it. He just made it because of how he felt.
I think more games should be like that.

But if you don't turn on all the difficulty options on, you're a bitch who can't play Dark Souls. You need to turn on smoking, drinking, and drugs all on. Also need to raise the "Number of Blacks" slider to max. That's how you play the real man's way.

Dude you're so clever.
>>
>>323982276
>That's how non-smokers feel literally all the time.

Except it's not for a lot of people, which is one of the main reasons people get into smoking or drinking on the level that it's a genuine addiction. People who already suffer from anxiety, depression, stress issues, they look for vices that make them feel better - then these vices turn into problems as you explained. Yes it's stupid, but so are drugs and they're incredibly popular with the retarded populace.

Wow, that's a great story. Too bad it's more 'muh feels' indie 'games are art' bullshit.

Greenlight could have been a great thing if they hadn't opened the flood gates. Now, greed has taken over and people are shitting out low quality, and in every sense of the word, shovelware, in hopes that something will stick. It's just like the Google Play store, everyone just puts minimal effort into developing a shit app that will catch a few dollars.

What happened to indie developers that wanted to make a fun game first and make money off of it last? I had a blast playing the mods that came out of the late 90s and early 00s.

People have literally always shared their experiences through artistic mediums, especially anything too uncomfortable for regular conversation.
It's a way to explain your feelings without looking another person you don't know very well in the eye and say "So my four year old died of cancer".

It's just never been as easy as it is now to make a "video game" since the tools are powerful enough non-technical artists can make the whole thing.
I'd rather we settle on another classification for things like this because I agree they're not games, but I'm not autistic enough to really care and argue about it. Someday when there's a lot more of them maybe people will decide on something.
