That being said, I'm a huge Smash fan (both Melee and Smash 4, love them both) but I'm also a big traditional fighting game fan. I would prefer is Smash isn't at EVO anymore.
I think the competitive scene in Smash is very stale and boring, especially compared to something like Street Fighter. Let's be real here, in Melee, the same group of 5 guys (honestly 4 since Mewtwo King hasn't won anything in forever) has won just about everything for the last 5 years. In Smash 4 everybody knows it's going to be ZeRo or Nairo.
Smash is more about grinding than it is actual skill which is why you see the same people winning all the time in Smash 4 and Melee, since they can put the most time into it. You see more varied result in a more skill based game like Street Fighter since it's more based on your ability to react to what your opponent is doing as opposed to grinding out specific kill set ups and edge guards like in smash.
Besides, Smash has Genesis, Apex, Big House, CEO, and now Dreamhack. It doesn't need EVO anymore.

Just recently someone near where I lived decided to host his first tourney out of his basement with nothing more than a facebook group post to promote it: over 30 entrants, some drove for hours to get there. He decided to make it a weekly and the next week got even more.

IF you put on assist. Manual input timing is harder, it's easier what strength to see them and they only has two opener options and two ender options of the same strength.
EG if they pick Jago. Their options for opening are L Laser Sword or L Wind Kick. You just Break Lights and they are gone. Their path is pretty simple to break and his enders are both heavy fireball and heavy dragon punch so you just break heavies on the last loop.
It teaches players the "golden path" but you can't rely on it for mash and win.

EVO is an international tournament
US community just sucks balls. Half don;t even understand what's wrong with their playstyle. When US players defeated "chinks" in T6 everyone was gun-ho, but the moment TTT2 hit everyone went silent.
