I'm fairly sure whichever Nintendo team they gave it to, they'd miss the mark on the speed and momentum based mechanics and the nuanced level design of the great Sonic games just like modern Sonic Team does

Sure, he'd probably find a way to fuck it up, but you could tell that a lot of effort went into Mega Man in Sm4sh, down to every tiny detail in his robot body and every reference to an older game. Certainly, Sakurai showed he cared about Mega Man more than Capcom themselves do
