It really isn't a "game", it's more of just an interesting experiment. It's fun looking around and trying to come up with explanations for the weird things you'll see.
If you DO end up playing it though, I recommend you look up how to do the faster speed glitch, because the movement speed can get kind of grating, even with the bike.

It's best not thought of as a traditional video game, as the only "gameplay" is just a literal easter egg hunt.
However the overall experience and presentation makes this one of my favorite things in the medium.
These are some other games I enjoyed if you end up liking Yume Nikki. I never played Palette or Lasciatemi morire but the girls are interesting in this picture at least.

It's a 3deep5u walking simulator with pixelshit graphics. You walk around dull, repetitive environments that loop so you can't even tell when an area begins or ends. There's a horrible annoying sound effect every time you take a step.
It bored me to tears and I don't get the appeal. I'm sure that if it came out today, and wasn't Japanese in origin, /v/ would hate it.

I played Fleshchild, Me, and Yume Nikki 3D.
I've been holding off for when I got into the mood again to start .flow and 2kki.
There are still other games I want to play like OFF and I think there was a water or aquarium type game but that may have been .flow or 2kki. I don't remember since I always try to go into these types of games knowing with as little as possible about the game other than the title, hearing it's similar to Yume Nikki, and maybe some art that got me interested in the first place.

So I just played it for a few minutes, not really knowing anything about it.
I walked around my room, went to sleep and woke up on the balcony, hopped around on the desk chair for a bit, and got spooked by the TV. After I left the room I wandered endlessly through what looked like a cross between an art gallery, arcade and a night club, eventually found my way back and then got lost in some kind of black void with spooky fluorescent statue things.

OP here, just thought I'd say that it actually is really neat. I played for about 2 hours so far just wandering around, and it handles being surreal and atmospheric well.
