If it weren't for shitty copyright laws metroid would be in the public domain by now.

you were so close.

>Zero mission is good.

Explain this to me without talking about stupid irrelevant bullshit like how "official" it is.
>>
>>323645165
That's retarded, just play in release order. They streamline some shit that makes the later games a lot easier to navigate/control compared to the older games. Start with Super then go up, fuck Metroid 1 and 2.

Metroid 2 is way better than metroid 1 and is a god-tier game by itself. It deserves a remake, but because Nintendo refuses to make it, why is it bad if a fan makes it?

It's not even complete

Have you played AM2R? It's a demo not even 10% of the game.

I thought the demo's 50% of the game. It goes to area 5 out of 10, right?

Metroid 2 is completely fine and playable to this day. It only takes a bit getting used to, but it's pretty linear for what it is. It was my first Metroid game, and played it no more than 4-5 years ago. I beat it in one sitting. That was back when I was a casual barely getting into more serious games.
>>
>>323646539
Guess they must have really picked up the pace since I played it like 2 years ago.
>>
>play unfinished fanremake over the actual already good game

C'mon. Also I'd put ForceFed under "wait and see" because maybe, just maybe, they'll salvage it into something at least worthy of optional.

There's a reason Super is the better game.

Considering how piss-easy it is and has poor design choices like Super Missiles, Power Bombs, one-way gates, and all of the various block types that serve to impede you from being able to get lost and explore, no.

I think there should be a rule for pretty much every game series (that doesn't have an absurd number of numbered sequels like CoD or Dynasty Warriors): Play the first one first. If you don't like it, move on to the next one. If you don't like that, move on to the next one, etc, etc. I'd say you should put in at least 40 minutes to an hour, depending on the game.
I think it's important to have context when playing a game. Not just in terms of narrative, but how the series has built on itself with each installment. You get to experience firsthand the improvements that they've made, and I think that makes them stand out a lot more.
Not to mention, sometimes sequels rely on your experiences with the previous titles.
>>
>>323648181
The room where you find Norfair is literally no different than any of the others. They're all copy/paste. All the other ones have a bomb-able tile, but none of the others lead anywhere. It isn't a clue, they just literally reuse rooms. They did this a lot in the game. It saves time and space. It is not a design choice. The block you have to bomb looks no different than the ones around it.The only way you would know to do that is if you owned the original game with the manual which has a map that shows you how to get to Norfair.
>>
>>323645165
No, stop trying to bait.
This how I play.
Metroid NES, Metroid II: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion

>>323645165
List is mostly solid, but Federation Force, while possibly being a skip in the future, should really be a "Wait-and-see" at this point. Same with AM2R. Until then, move Metroid II into it's place. Lastly, Gamecube versions of the first two primes should be optional alternatives for the Trilogy versions.

Decent/10
>>
After playing through the first four games, it makes me want a sequel to Fusion so bad e3 2016 NX handheld Nintendo make it happen.

I beat Super Metroid and Zero Mission last year for the first time.
God this series is boring.

>It is not a design choice.
It is. Similar-looking rooms were created to intentionally confuse and disorient you. You're supposed to feel like a rat in a maze.

>The block you have to bomb looks no different than the ones around it.The only way you would know to do that is if you owned the original game with the manual which has a map that shows you how to get to Norfair.
I'm going to assume you're referring to this section of Norfair on the far right of the map. I've pointed out to you where there is a break in a pattern.

Nice meme, but that's just NES limitations at its worst. If you draw a map you will hardly get lost at all.
>>
>>323651660
This
>>
>>323652060
>that's just NES limitations at its worst.
Is it? Or is it that the game was designed with those limitations in mind and creatively worked within them?

>If you draw a map you will hardly get lost at all.
Yes, that's the purpose of a map. At least Metroid allows you to get lost, unlike Super Metroid, which guides you along a path and even provides you with an in-game map that fills in automatically and you can consult at any time.
>>
>>323652429
Whatever you think the devs intended, having repetitive areas all the time is just boring all around even compared to other NES games. At least the other games in the series had the decency to have a more varied level design.

And the only difference in Super Metroid is that it saves for doing a map, which isn't even that demanding 2bh.

>having repetitive areas all the time is just boring all around even compared to other NES games.
Super Mario Bros. had repetitive areas. The Legend of Zelda had repetitive areas. Kid Icarus had repetitive areas. Taking release date into consideration, Metroid is hardly far from how repetitive NES games could be in that era.

You are on an alien planet full of hostile life in caverns you know nothing about. You are supposed to get lost, you are supposed to feel isolated, you are supposed to be disoriented.
>>
>>323653028
Super Mario and Zelda had repetitive graphics, but not repetitive areas, the level design much infinitely more varied than Metroid pham.

Now Kid Icarus yeah, but that games was developed by the same team from Metroid around the same time.

You should probably play Super first. If you play ZM or Fusion before then you'll want to commit suicide with how badly Super controls in comparison.
