Not sure if bait or completely retarded. Depending on the choices you make over the game, both in combat and not, you will get one of many subtle or not-so-subtle variations on the three main endings. These choices also have an immediate, eventual, or prolonged effect in game.

It does a nice job of having choices that seem to actually matter. Even on varying degrees of how much they matter.
It ranges from
>will I fuck this bitch or not?
>will I get this upgrade at the expense of losing a character? (example: the werewolf bit)
>what faction do I want to play through/ending do I want to receive
and these are just a few examples, when you start mixing and matching you starting creating a game that actually feels impacted by what you did. I played through it 4 times and wasn't bored.

I beat The Witcher and I didn't like the game at all. Like you said, the combat is terrible. But also lots of quests were awful, in particular that one in the swamp.

>kill some people but not everybody
all of the other dialogue options are jokes and have no consequences, no branching paths, etc etc etc

If you play through the entirety of all Baldur's Gate games, there are some that matter
Alpha Protocol is the one game that has WILDLY branching paths depending on player choice. I fucking love that game and I'm glad more people are giving it a chance now.
Many roguelikes, Mount and Blade, Space Rangers, grand strategies (check the general).
I mean if you want your choices to affect actual game and not some cutscenes or whatnot.
