Yes because a large part of the agree market value of consumer media is the longstanding implicit value in its ownership as a thing that can be resold. Once that value is lost the original worth of it is much less. Thats why things like digital streaming of movies and music is much much cheaper than buying a physical copy.
Of course that doesn't really apply to video games, but thats because video games have the worst consumer base who have absolutely no self respect or ideals of consumer rights.
