Actually they were trying to listen to third parties, but they asked to the wrong ones i.e. EA and Ubisoft.
They should've gone with GabeN, told him that he would be able to remake SM64 and force him to help Miyamoto make a console that appealed to more people.

The bulk of the market is geared to feeding AAA shit games to normies, none of which isn't released on the Wii U. The other problem is that Nintendo doesn't release enough quality games on the platform it interest non-fans. If they put as much effort in the Wii U as they did in the 3DS it probably would be doing better.
