the game looks phenomenal, combat is satisfying with all the decapitations and spot dodges and I even enjoy the dialogue and story which although erring on the side of ridiculous in terms of Geralts willingness to perform absurdly difficult tasks for almost no pay off.

I literally just finished The Witcher 3 on Death March.
It was both excellent and horrid shit at same time.

tl;dr, it's good, but not as a game
I'd still give it a solid 6/10, because I want to like this game. But that's not something easy, because the flaws are huge and the qualities hardly balance them.

Best game of the year hands down undisputed. Best DLC of the year (possibly the generation so far). And next year Blood & Wine will be the best gaming available.
