Just strongly backed rumors and evidence of both companies going back into manufacturing overdrive like you always see when a new console is in the works. I wouldn't expect an announcement this year necessarily, at least not at E3, but the evidence is stacking up that it's happening.

Putting out a new model of an existing console is generally a smaller scale operation because they aren't making all the parts from scratch. From what I understand, this is full scale development.

Nope. The 360 and PS3 were absolute beasts when they came out, but these don't have that luxury. Expect a replacement by 2018.
