You can instantly hop out of any attack and continue to mash B for invincibility mode.
A guard lancer is more likely to get their shit slapped since it takes longer to finish your attack, put up your shield and position yourself so the enemy doesn't hit you from a bad angle. Also the counter counts as part of your combo, so you can't do it after the third poke.

Charge Blade is just an incredibly versatile and powerful weapon.
Once I shake the rust off and get back into my old save file I'm probably going to start using different weapons, though.
Maybe Greatsword or Gunlance. Not much else that interests me.

yeah, totally. the only weapons that really falls behind in dps are the hh and gunlance, but not too bad.
Yeah, lance is pretty easy to use, but I have the most fun with it.
Though for a change of pace I usually pick up Switch Axe, and sometimes Charge Blade.

Damage increasing skills, and personally I really like evade extender with them. I'm no pro or anything, though.
My set is:
Rebellion Helm Z
Grand Divine Ire Robe
Kujula Grip
Grand Divine Ire Obi
Tempest Hakama
and an Evade Dist +6/OOO Talisman
Ends up giving me Honed Blade, Latent Power +1, Evasion +1 and Evade Extender. There are probably better sets you can make, but I like this one quite a bit, and am too lazy to farm a ton for crazy rare talismans beyond whatever I've happened to get lucky with. I also usually just use the Ceadeed Axe, because I haven't bothered fully upgrading many others.

I dont cart and Ive been rolling through roars, tail whips, fireballs, tremors, and hip checks since FU without evasion with LS since thats its only option, and can see just how dramatically lower the damage output is on the damn thing by comparing my kill times from FU to 4U on certain monsters. not to mention the fact that i dont even have to try with a GS (a weapon i've used less than a tenth of how much ive used a LS) and i get faster kill times with it than my LS.

if you're fighting say a tigrex on a flat surface in 4U i dont see much of a change from FU other than scouple more moves to weapons, a couple more moves to tigrex, and different damage formulas. Kill times then on that monster should be similar with the same weapon type unless subsequent games have made the damage that weapon does higher or lower.
