Now to be clear, he's made games I don't like. I'd bet nobody likes all his games. But none of them have been bad. Every single one has had merit in one way or another. I hate FF2 but goddamn I wish more people were willing to take big risks like that. Blue Dragon was flawed in a lot of ways but it's still a good game for what it does right.
The man has worked nearly 30 years in games and even his cell phones games are good. That is some serious quality.

People give him a lot of shit for being a "liar" but he doesn't have creative control over games, and is usually told whatever he suggests is gonna be in - and that's what he tends to run his mouth about. Hell, the "It Just Werks(TM)" thing only came about because he himself does not know much about the development of games since he's a glorified producer on titles now.

The story is trash. But it seems like it's intentionally trash. It basically takes place in the series' Twilight Zone parody, Night Springs.
The combat is better.
The arcade mode is pretty challenging but not impossible to beat if you get good.
The soundtrack is crap.
It's worth buying if you get it when it's on sale. I mean, you already fucked up by not getting the Alan Wake series when it was in a Humble Weekly Bundle with no minimum price. But whatever. It's still worth a few dollars.
