It just depends on the hobby. A lot of hobbies outside of videogames require you to do something other than sitting on your ass all day so at least you get exercise.
A lot of hobbies also translate into real world experience that you can apply to other areas of your life. The same can't really be said about videogames. I mean I guess it might help you a bit if you became a indie developer but playing videogames doesn't teach you how to code.
