I'm playing a str build and dual wielding bastard swords, and the L1 attack is so shiiiit, it doesn't move you forward at all, and it doesn't correct its direction if you follow up with a 2nd attack, even if you point the stick in their direction.
Compare that to the Falchion moveset I tried earlier that just moves you forward and autocorrects itself very simply.
Am I just stuck with the shittiest moveset of the dualwields? Nameley greatswords? Did I fuck up? Dual wield in general just seems kind of useless desu, I might as well just roll with a shield and then just go twohanded by one press ofa button if it the occasion calls for more damage.

for BB it's better to go 50/25 str/skl. there are a TON of weapons in the game with either C/D or B/D str/skl scaling, which makes 50/25 ideal. In addition, you don't get the 2hand bonus for STR like you do in DaS and DaS2, so capping str at 28 is useless. furthermore, a "true" quality build (30/30 or 35/35) basically restricts you to the Holy Blade, which is boring

I am a huge fan of straight swords definitely one of my favorite weapon classes. I have three builds I play on das2 quality straight swordsman, Felicia the strong cosplay and my pure pyromancer with two pyromancy gloves. The pyromancy is my favorite though I have minimum stat investment for str and dex just enough dex to use a dagger and just enough str to 1 hand a mace. I mostly stick with the dagger or a hand axe as a backup weapon.

I hate dex because it turned for people that treat the PvP in Souls games as if they were fighting games. You know how people shitpost about how Smash isn't a fighting game? That's exactly how I feel. There are successful streamers that made their living by streaming tryhard PvP in Souls games, and they spread this fucking fighting game mentality for Souls games PvP, which is far, FAR from being anything remotely similar to a fighting game. It has always been and will be a PvE game with tacked on, barely working multiplayer elements in it.
So in the middle of all this shit-storm is their precious dex build. It just so happens that dex weapons are always easy-mode garbage that kill everything in a few hits, dealing bigger damage than ultra greatswords or big hammers, especially if you throw in a stupid fucking buff. Katanas are the staple for this shit. Super fast recovery, allows you to be spammy without consequence, etc. And for what? So you can be like your precious tryhard streamers and win matches in 3 hits? Going through the game making a "build" specifically just to do that is fucking stupid. Nearly 80% of all tryhrads are dexfags, and will remain dexfags forever because they want to win, as if this was a fucking fighting game tournament and they HAVE to pick top tier to win. BBS fell out of favor because the build was essentially poorly optimized str or dex with only 1 weapon, that got out-poked by everything. Damage is what made it viable, and when every other build inherited high damage BBS went from literally the best build to one of the worst.

The build I had the most fun with was 27/40 STR/DEX in DaS. The Claymore's sprinting attacks are amazing when two handed and I could just Beyblade around with my Composite bow as backup, and my pick of whatever Dex weapons I liked.
Can also go 27/45 for maximum Pyromancy on the same build.

DaS is a bitch if you can't stagger your enemies though, which DEX generally can't. I've played through it more than once with both kinds of build, and DEX was much harder to get the hang of.
Quality build with no shield was the best though. Fuck shields, DaS is so much better once you learn to forget they exist and just two-hand your weapon and dodge.

The damage was still absurd, even people like Ajax used BBS up until everyone moved to DkS, and BBS players when mix-maxed would still kill you in like 3-5 swipes. The problem was they were shit without LW (so they always needed to rebuff) and couldn't outpoke hammer/kat/estoc and couldn't trade with DBS/Gaxe.
They were comparable to a Kilij (still very scary).

I was talking more about the actual game, not PvP. Although the wood grain ring is still useful for PvE.
Dex in PvE is a really mixed blessing because your attacks don't commit like STR ones, so you have more opportunities to dance away from shit like O&S' attacks. But the lack of stagger is awful.
First time I went through Sen's fortress I had Zweihander equipped on a full STR build, and I was just SMASHING the Man-Serpents. I'd R2 and they'd just go pancake flat. When I went in with Uchigatana I had to really watch my ass because they wouldn't flinch at that shit, they'd just pound my ass whilst bleeding out. Sure I could kill them but they were no longer a joke.
Same with the crow bitches in the Painted World. They were suddenly a threat.

Lots of armor, twinking to the max and dps. Chaos Hand Axe proved to be my best friend. The normal R1 is quick, the R2 is identical to Battle Axe R1 but does more damage.

I never used weapon spells in souls games, it feels cheesy how good they are.
For example in dark souls 2 you could ignore your weapon multiplier and just go faith or whatever and still do more damage than a pure melee stats character.
And then you get the option to cheese bosses with it too, it's not for me.
