Why do all Jap games have these retarded titles in English?
>Bravery Default
>Resident Evil
>Guilty Gear
>Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth (??? What's that semicolon doing there???)
>Chrono Trigger
>Infinite Undiscovery
>Final Fantasy
>Kingdom Hearts
It's like these people googled "two-word noun generator" and picked the one they thought sounded videogamey
I'm assuming it sounds better in Japanese and the translation is kinda wonky or whatever? Can you weebs please enlighten me.
>>
Most of it is translation stuff, part of it is just the fact that most video game titles don't make sense

>Serious Sam
>main character is constantly cracking wise

>Binary Domain
>game takes place in a normal-seeming world and not in cyberspace

>Dark Souls
>souls are bright white

>Dead Rising
>they're all infected people who were not previously dead
>>
Resident Evil and Final Fantasy are self explanatory
Chrono Trigger and Guilty Gear makes sense in context

It just looks and sounds so incompetent though, I mean wouldn't you want people not to think that the game is made by some illiterate morons?
I gotta admit I do like how some of those titles I mentioned look on paper, like Resident Evil or Kingdom Hearts, they look neat
Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth is a complete clusterfuck though

kek, I see what you did there.

Chrono Trigger and Finaly Fantasy are not that big of a deal, but I think Biohazard was a better name than Resident Evil.

Wasn't the name Final Fantasy chosen because it would have sunk the company if it didn't do well hence their final fantasy?

I guess you dont know, but Japanese people dont speak english, they apeak Japanese. However, they do think Engliah is cool, which is why they like naming games like hyperdimension nwptunia re;birt. They dont give a damn if it makes sense, it just needs to sound cool to non english speaking japs.
>>
>>321944194
did you play any of these games?

Guilty Gear is because powerful characters are called gears, and only one can feel guilt

Kingdom hearts is because in that game if you get kingdom hearts you win(????)

Bravely default is a game mechanic
>>
>>321947801
The Witcher makes sense though. It's an occupation, and the protagonist is a witcher. It's no worse than something like Hitman. And it doesn't suffer from "two random words thrown together" like OP's. The Last Of Us is at least a phrase that is coherent. Find better examples.

It's called Biohazard in Japan.

The reason why you see so much crazy English in games is the reason you see crazy English from japan in general. English is cool. It looks cool. It's fonts are cooler. It makes you game some exotic. Et cetera.

The thing you need to know is that japan aren't creating titles to appeal to foreigners; they are doing it to appeal to Japanese people, most of whom don't get what the fucks being said.
>>
>>321947320
What's wrong with the .hack game names?
>>
>>321945378
https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Dragon_Ball_Z:_Budokai_Tenkaichi
I think this game best illustrates this confusion. In the US, the game has a Japanese title because it sounds cool and exotic to an English speaker. In Japan, the game has an English title because it sounds cool and exotic to them.
>>
>>321945030
So people only say shit in English in America because it sounds cool?
>>
>>321944194
"Guilty Gear" is explained in Sol's ending in the first game he's the "guilty Gear", the prototype of a bunch of biological weapons.
Chrono Trigger makes perfect sense, like at a glance.
Final Fantasy sounds cool in English, same with Resident Evil (sounds like a horror movie title).

Nep, Infinite Undiscovery, and Bravely Default (this one has always bothered me) don't get a pass though.

It doesn't. It's just a trend with LNs. Long names give the "what the fuck, lol" factor on the bookshelf and get people interested out of curiosity. It's kinda overplayed now, and honestly a little annoying. It's pretty much a dead horse getting beaten now.

The joke is over, we get it, look at how funny you are for purposely substituting your title with a watered down synopsis if the story while making it as drawn out as possible without actually being a synopsis. Yes, I made sure to draw that last sentence out as long as possible to prove a point, it would make a perfect LN title. The sentence before this as well.

Fate is the name of the series.
Kaleid- comes from the Kaleidoscope, which is the magical artifact the Kaleidosticks are based off of.
Liners are powerful magical entities in Nasu's works. Examples are ghost liners and ether liners.
Prisma connects back to the Kaleidoscope, and also serves as part of Ilya's magical girl name.

Its called Dragon Age because it takes place during the Dragon Age since dragons had just appeared for the first time not to long before the actual story began.

Grand Theft Auto shouldn't be too hard. Its the name of the crime of stealing cars.

Bioshock is somewhat of a holdover title. THe previous game was System shock which involved computers and robots and shit. Earlier in Bioshocks development, everything was a lot more organic. Like living organisms bound with technology. Vendors and computers and stuff would have living organic interfaces. The liquid in the hacking minigame is blue because originally it was you linking Eve to whatever the creature was in the device so it would do what you wanted it to.

Saints Row takes place on the street Saint's Row. At least the first one does, most of SR2 takes place outside that neighborhood, and SR 3 and 4 are in another city altogether, but it makes sense for the first two games.

Neverwinter is the location of the game

>>321953019
It makes sense in another language, but to someone who just looks at it it probably wont' make sense at all. I guess in straight English it'd come out to be "Ar Tonelico: The Last Song of Ar Ciel" which doesn't sound near as cool imo.

Well now it has become like a brandname.
No one know what the hell it really means, but it sounds catchy, it looks good in writing (although Im not sure if I can be subjective about this) and its instantly recognizable. Whether or not "Resident Evil" actually means anything related to the game like "Dark Souls" is irrelevant at this point.

Bravely Default's title kind of explains what the story is about, though. It's not Default as in the normal option, it's Default as in a failure to fulfill an obligation.

You have to be brave enough not to do what you think you're supposed to in order to get the best ending. Meanwhile, if you do what you think you should, you get a good ending, but not the best one.

And, ironically, the function in the game called Default is named so because it's a non-action, thus the "normal" action, so it uses the other meaning of Default.
>>
>>321944194
Nah man, you're just retarded. First thing in titles - sound cool and good. Catchy.
Second thing - meaning.

> Bravely Default
It represents two things. One, a bunch of teens from all walks of life are thrown together and have to face their fears and fight against a horde of monsters and men in order to save the world from falling apart. They are the Bravely Defaults.
Second, it's literally the mechanics of the game, brave and default.

> Resident Evil
It's somewhat metaphoric to the evil that lurks within everyone, the Virus being that evil manifested. The 1st game was also based in a mansion if that helps. And it sounds cool. Jap version is BioHazard btw.

> Final Fantasy
It was literally Square's last chance to make a comeback. The company's future depended on it. This was the final nail in the coffin to Fantasy RPGs if they failed. The 'Final Fantasy'. Yes it's kinda silly we are at the 15th mainline iteration and it's still Final Fantasy but at this point it's brand recognition to the franchise that made Squeenix top dog.

> Kingdom Hearts
Literally the same reason why Dragon Ball is called Dragon Ball. Play the game.

Welcome to modern nomenclature: Its not limited to just the Japs. Gears of War? Halo? God of War? Warhammer 4dk?

Even ancient literature is guilty of abusing its nomenclature over and over. Odyssey. Gallic Wars. City of God. Natural History. Concerning Military Matters. Celestial Hierarchy. They were very blunt and very dry about its subject matter with no attempt to hide it. Or just named after the protagonist: Heracles, Electra, Helen, Ion, Medea.

>>321956628
Its a combination of "Theater or "Theatrical" and "Rhythm."

During the invasion, de facto Panamanian leader, general, and dictator Manuel Noriega was deposed, president-elect Guillermo Endara sworn into office and the Panamanian Defense Force dissolved."
