It's genuinely a really great game.
Whether it deserves this much praise is debateable, but it makes sense.
Last year, TW3 was to the mainstream gaming community what Skyrim was to them in 2011. Skyrim, until now, was considered a high quality game by most casuals. Now that the casuals finally got a game that actually does have love and effort put into it, it blew their minds since they had never played anything better than Skyrim.

Undertale made me feel shit I didn't expect to feel, got to give it props for that, but as an actual game it's definitely overinflated. It's still pretty good, and I would argue you have shit taste and/or cognitive bias if you think it's actually bad.
But it doesn't compare to the Witcher III or Bloodborne, which both equally deserve GotY.

I would agree, Bloodborne would overall be a better package if not for HoS.
I do think the next DLC is going to be of similar quality though. I believe the reason HoS was so good because it was a original CDPR plot, instead of a book adaptation. Leaving them the freedom to do things that were actually interesting.

It's just the truth, it's what you would call "standard" for an action type game, I personally would have done something different but it was ok as a medium to carry on the story, it is however the #1 they should improve for any of their future titles (may them be more witcher games or not).

Actually, absolute majority of the Witcher fans I've seen - here and elsewhere, will readily admit that the combat leaves a lot to be desired. It has been truth about every single one of the Witcher games. I'd personally say that TW3's combat is the best one in the series, but it's still "competent" at best, and DEFINITELY not complex, or rich or interesting or varied enough to support a 100+ hour games.
It turns into going through motions really quick - it isn't exactly thrilling even when you are not intimately familiar with it, and you will know everything it has on offer before you fucking reach Novigrad.
I kinda think this is a common knowledge among even most of the hardboiled TW fans.

I consider it more than serviceable. It's surprisingly intuitive and has quite a few ins and outs that give it a modestly high skill ceiling, even if it's stuff as simple as knowing when to dodge vs knowing when to roll, or block. The difficulty level actually affects the AI too, which is the antithesis of artificial difficulty.
That said, it still varies and has flaws, but most of these flaws don't have to do with the combat mechanics themselves, it has to do with the metagame, like how some builds can get overpowered or be abused.
inb4 I'm sperg'd at for not falling into the majority opinion.

I like the mechanical features, but I don't think they are all that well executed. The combat always felt rather floaty to me. I also miss the more tactical options of the second game. In the end, I found the combat never insulting, but never really thrilling.
I will admit that it is, in fact, a lot better than combat in most open world multiplatform games of late - namely Batman/AssCreed/MadMax variety. Still - I don't think I really remember any actual fight from the game. It just was... kinda there - never flat out frustrating or boring me, but never really making me thrilled.
