Why did people dislike max payne 3?
Mostly just because the unskippable cutscenes made replaying the game a chore.
Ignoring that 3 is still better than 2.

I don't know. It wasn't released until 9 years after Max Payne 2, so I just lost interest in the series & never bothered to play it.
the main criticism I've seen is that it's not a "Max Payne" game. Besides that, people like it, especially the gunplay
Cutscenes and QTEs obviously, but the most insulting thing to fans was that Rockstar clearly ignored/didn't care about what happened in MP1 and MP2. It made no fucking sense that Max was an alcoholic and mourning his wife at the start of the game considering the ending of MP2.
Also, there weren't really any particularly memorable characters or levels, and the Brazil setting just didn't work out that well. There's a reason the flashback levels are always considered the best ones.

Would not be mad if Rockstar does a remastered version for 8th gen.
I didn't mind the main gameplay or the story or the settings.
BUT having ingame cutscenes every fucking 5 seconds and the gun limit. You find a cool rifle, yet you can't use it because you advance 2 feet and a cutscene shows Max jumping down in slow mo and going back to just having the default handgun.
