In 2013 or 2014 some dev made their GF Community Manager and something else and then there was a long forum post from her about why they're suddenly no longer planning on making dungeons spooky anymore because it's not safe for the target audience (kids!). She made it sound like her idea. Lots of people were pissed off. It was a big stink on Reddit and here and led everyone to label her a stupid whore.
They just should add in a fucking creative mode and more blocks/furniture because building is the only thing this game has over Terraria.

I followed Starbound from the beginning and it's clear now that the kind of progression that made Terraria great is absent from the game.
Cozy as shit, and they suposedly are trying to reintroduce hunger and the temperature shit back in. Im fine with it, hell, they recently introduced Fossils and shit, so that's neat.

each "big updates" added loads to the game.
1.1 felt like a whole new game. dynamic lightning , new bosses , hardmodes , countless new weapons.
right now they'll release 1.3.1 which will add small stuff like yellow wires , logic gates and conveyor belts i think. redigit is mainly working on Otherworld for now , and wants to make Terraria 2 after.

That's just a "cover story".
The real reason was to avoid triggering people. It's a sad day when creativity is stymied by people getting butthurt (or lying about getting butthurt) about something that isn't even real.
Some games circa 2014-2015 were abandoned by gamers because of this pandering to butthurt-ers. Most of those games tanked hard.
