Trying to transition from a xbox 360 controller to a fightstick due to often dropping inputs at vital moments.
The actual stick takes some getting used to, but I can use it rather comfortably and accurately. The buttons however are a fucking different story.
I currently placed the buttons like this:
K-S-HS-0
P-D- 0 - 0
My index rests on K, middle on S, ring on HS, thumb switches between P and D.
Switching between P and D with my thumb doesnt feel all that great though.
People suggest using:
K-S-HS-0
P-0- D- 0
But my pinky can't even reach that fucking dust button because of UNGA hands. If I would place dust on top right, it would leave my pinky in an uncomfortable stretched position where I cant really use it all that well.
Would anyone experienced with a stick suggest me to just train dat pinky or stick with using my thumb for P and D?

why are you using your pinky for your third row? I have pretty small hands but I don't have trouble hitting everything on my 8-arc, madcatz or hori sticks which have varying button sizes.

Don't use your pinky or thumb for D if your fingers aren't used to it. Move your finger off HS and use your ring or something. There's no reason you need to have a finger on HS and D at the same time. Even when comboing HS moves usually have plenty of hitstun to move your finger over.

You'll get used to just using three fingers and moving them down when need be, I also use a six button pad which I'm still slightly better on, I miss a lot of right facing IADs on stick still.
Why is this game so stupidly offense oriented? 2 combos and you win the match. Even MvC3 feels like you have more of a chance at a comeback.

But it's not, you have a lot of defensive options, FD, burst, dead angle ect. Pick someone with a good reversal and shit on an overly offensive opponent with it. Also wake up throws if they stay in your face when they knock you down. GG has always had a lot of come back potential.

I like MVC3 but don't talk shit. MvC has touch of death combos for 1/2 bars of meter on nearly half the cast. There are plenty of characters that are even capable of placing the spawning characters into a blockstring -> 50/50 mixup. X-factor, vanilla FUCKING phoenix, Vergil, etc.
