it can't. the sony VR is going to initially be significantly more successful. it doesn't matter if the tech isn't as good, what matters is that it's accessible, as it'll still impress the average console owner. people are apprehensive to acknowledge this on /v/, but these are also people who already don't give a shit about playing at 30fps, or lower than 1080 resolutions, etc. also, the second hand market will be much greater, getting it into even more hands, and every electronic store is going to have a sony rep in the game section selling this thing personally.

I have a gaming PC but its well below what'll be needed for Oculus so I'm already leaning slightly more towards PSVR since I already own a PS4. As far as I'm concerned PSVR is the more realistic VR option for me.
If PSVR is legitimately $300 then that'd be fantastic, but considering Oculus is $600 and they're not making any money on it at that price, I don't see it happening.

I have the dosh. I have two GTX 980s. I still think PSVR is a better buy and heres why.
Sony has talked majorly about how we'll interface with our games in VR. This is a major fucking issue right now, if you've already used a HMD you've experienced it. Only the most simplistic of games actually feel good to play with VR right now. You do NOT want to be reading menus and text in VR.
Oculus? They've said nothing on the topic and more or less dodge the question as they don't care about software advances, just pushing their product. They're not targeting gamers - They want big business. Oculus is not a gaming platform.
Aside from that - Honestly the tech just isn't there yet. 1080p is still screen door fuzzfest. The headsets are bulky, hot, in general uncomfortable. The media availability is more or less non-existent outside of demos. This isn't changing in 2016, probably not even 2017.
The buy in cost for a peripheral that isn't likely to really get used on the daily basis being $350~600 is pretty obscene. If I spend that much money on something for my computer it's going to be something I use -a LOT-.
I dropped $1100 on my headphones / DAC / Amp. I'm going to be getting the new Asus 1440p 100hz ultra wide for $1400. I'll probably get the GTX1080s or whatever on their launch week. I don't mind spending the money if I'm going to use the shit.
