It's an ok musou game, with tons of fanservice.

Grindy as a musou, all that territory defense at work, otherwise a pretty novel take. It's okay.

I wish they had done a traditional Musou instead. I'll stick to Pirate Warriors 3 or Hyrule Warriors.

Grinding in this game is surprisingly less fun than in actual DQ games, can't believe you can fuck something up that badly.
Otherwise it's an average game. Tired me pretty quickly compared to other DW games though.

I think it is fun a short bursts and extremely charming and whimsical, as a DQ game should be.

Your mileage depends on exactly how much you like the series in the first place though. Even if you don't know anything about it, you could still enjoy it, and on the other hand, if you are an extreme, obsessive autist about the series that couldn't even handle IX being different you will definitely hate it,
