3 and prior doesn't have a lot of the luxuries that 4 and on have, such as restarting levels and going back to the netherworld without exiting the game, as well as repositioning units without pressing O to put them back at their original position. Also, getting new skills for your units works completely differently in the other games(not sure about DD2 since I haven't played it). You have to buy them using mana, like you do with Evilities in D5. Also, you can't skip animations if they've already started in D3 and its predecessors. I might be missing some things but these are what stood out to me as the biggest problems with older titles.

Started playing D5 a few days ago and I just wanted to say that she is absolute shit. Easily one of the worst characters I've ever encountered in games and anime. Every time she speaks I want to seppuku myself. Also, Killia is a horribly generic edgy MC complete with inner darkness buttfuckery and everything.
The actual game-play itself is definitely good though. I'm really enjoying it but I fucking hate most of the main cast of characters. I see what they meant when they said they wanted to broaden the appeal. Also the default base music is godawful.

Not as much grinding as you might expect. It really is an optional part of the game. Hell, you can adjust the difficulty in-game through the council of hell if you find things too hard or too easy. The exp rewards will match the difficulty of course.
If you don't mind grinding however, there's a lot of content to explore and mess around with. I really liked the Item World. From what I remember, it allowed you to enter a piece of equipment, which generated several dozen floors of randomized dungeons. By powering through them, you would find decent loot and enhance the item you were exploring.

Everyone in Disgaea world is a cold bitch at times; morals in general are pretty warped and strange at times. Even Hero of Justice Adell doesn't mind beating people up for basically no reason most of the time, and just being "Well fuck it, I'm still not saying sorry or anything, they shouldn't have been there" next time he sees them.

Disgaea mechanics:

>summoned units aren't confined into a stage so they stay as long as they want
Phantom Brave mechanics

>Radius based movement
>ridiculously large amounts of weapons (this was cut down from "everything" in phantom brave to like 30 weapon types)

Makai Kingdom also puts a heavy emphasis on generic units, in that you don't get any of the actual main characters until well into post-game, because they're all overlords.

I think its a person by person basis.
I know of a lot of straight traps in doujinshi and manga though. That type of trap usually becomes a trap unwillingly or in order to get close to the girl in question, in a sneaky way.
Trapfags typically hate that kind of trap at times though, going "That's heretical", but honestly they're still pretty common among traps. Also there's the traps who only dress like that for the personal benefits, and not for any sexual reason.
Honestly there's a lot of different types out there. That's another reason that talking to trapfags is a bother; because they tend to act like there's only one reason this type of character can exist, and its only boypussy shit. They can be pretty fun or comical types of characters though.

I don't think trap healers are going anywhere. They were added in D2 and returned for 5.
Plus female units are more popular as a whole so in that same regard we'll keep armor sluts and never get male heavy knights again despite their classes being complementary in name and their lore description says they are both in circulation.
Males use metal names (iron, steel, mythril) for their classes while females use gemstones.
by Disgaea 6, Male fighters, skulls, male fistfighters, male angels and male ninjas will be omitted entirely, Gunners, Dark Knights, Wrestlers and Pirates will be replaced with female versions.
