Hobbies aren't meant to produce much of anything, it's why they're hobbies. People do them for their own personal enjoyment, not for the acknowledgement of others.
People are going to be more interested in you painting well because it's more relatable in our culture. Video gaming is a much newer medium and is less relatable.
In 10 years, after esports picks up, and it's being televised, then you'll probably see more interested acknowledgement in people saying they "play good".
