There are two recent updates that are for everyone and not restricted to backers. Go read those.
They changed to a different game engine and it greatly set back the game because apparently they didn't know shit about the engine or underestimated the effort required to learn it (this isn't on updates, it was from other anons that seems to be backers).

It was planned for 2015. They struggled how to do even the most basic shit like jumping physics and trap floors (the ones that drops you down).
They were on alpha version 0.2 or some shit like that early in development then after the change it was on 0.01 and the august 2015 was on 0.03. According to an anon, they have the maps and puzzles already sorted out, but there can always be more problems/bugs when transitioning things from paper to game.

I've replayed the game and it's not as hard as it seems, really. The problem is that you're supposed to take notes/screenshots of literally every piece of hint, because the game throws some at you way early in the game that you'll only use 5 to 20 hours later (playing time), at which point you won't remember.
The only retarded or at least semi retarded stuff are the meta puzzles (IE sleeping and the mario puzzle) and some puzzles or areas only being unlocked after doing certain triggers that the game doesn't tell you it got unlocked (or that was locked to begin with)

Seriously though, Legend of Grimrock 2 was such a god-tier sequel that improved upon the original in every single possible way, and made it 20x longer, and it was so god-tier that it made the original almost unplayable as a result because the sequel was just so fucking good. I want La-mulana 2 to be that way.
