It started with just games, you know, and maybe anime a bit, I wanted to consume more of it without needing to wait and also because it was getting censored like crazy. Over time though, it's starting to become a societal thing. I don't want to live in a country anymore that has headline news about sexist air conditioning or that makes a new Star Wars with an overpowered female lead to make girls feel better about their inferiority complexes. Japan isn't perfect, I learned that pretty quickly after moving, but I have zero problems with the crazy SJW shit I had back home and I wouldn't even hear about it if I didn't still come here to shitpost.

If enough people refused to buy the game (or maybe just purchased it used) and wrote actual physical letters to Nintendo, a few thousand complaints and something might be done. They would actually need to see people put their money where their mouth is though.
Either way, this won't happen period unless there is some sort of organized effort, which I doubt will ever happen.
