Just skip the first one or breeze through it on easy mode. They've put a lot of effort into it (esp. the enhanced edition) but it's clearly showing its age.
The games are quite self-contained anyway. You'll just be slightly confused when you see recurring characters.

I can't really decide between 1 or 3 being the best, but I can safely say 2 is my least favorite. I don't like the story and I don't like that the game doesn't have much actual witchering in it, they really butchered the atmosphere after the first chapter too. I was relieved to see that witcher 3 had an atmosphere as good as the first game, even though it wasn't quite as gothic.

Two was good, just the other two were better.
One had the best quests, only the gameplay let it down a bit. The story was great too.
3 has music, atmosphere, story, gameplay,combatand everything else going for it, it's my favourite game of 2015

The introduction to these characters in all 3 games is a surprise to the witcher, I don't think playing them in order would make much difference really.
