Square has ALWAYS been obsessed with making Final Fantasy an "interactive movie." Did you forget the shitty Final Fantasy theatrical movie from the 90s? The only reason this wasn't as apparent during the SNES was because of technological limitations, though remember that Final Fantasy 6 was a huge cartridge for its time.

It's fucking ridiculous. Nier, Persona, Undertale, these games are all character driven, story emphasized games that are largely mediocre but loved for the strong points that shine through and attract the fanbase. I guess the difference is that 2/3 are Japanese, which gets a free pass to be shit as long as it does like one thing semi-well, and the other is Indie pixel shit that didn't have a budget so it's safe to like since it didn't come from an evil corporation.
TLOU did a lot of things really mediocre, and a handful of things very right. But because it received tons of praise, was made by white guys, had a budget, and is a Sony exclusive, it gets torn to shreds whereas niche shit like Persona and Nier get away with being garbage on more fronts than TLOU. Shit I love Nier, I enjoy Persona, and I really enjoyed TLOU, especially the multiplayer. But for some reason TLOU triggers everyone when other, shittier games don't.
I doubt any of its many detractors, even in this thread, actually bothered to just sit down and play it. Or they played it with the preconcieved notion that it's shit thanks to /v/. I just saw a friend playing it, liked what I saw, got a used PS3, and enjoyed me some Mcarthy/Cohen bros style ripoff storytelling with brutal melee combat and some fun resource starvation on Survivor mode, not to mention the multiplayer.
But we CAN'T talk about that here, no sir. I don't even think it has a fucking general on /vg/, even though Factions is the shit and is still pretty active to this day on PS4.
