A to-scale World Map would take far too long and be too large of a file if you want Cloud on foot at any point. Only thing you COULD do is make it to where you're always in some kind of a vehicle when on the world map. So, rewrite it to where Cloud and co. steal the buggy on their way out of Midgar (rather than Dio gifting it). Maybe you could play with scaling that way.

I think the industry lost its "underground essence" somewhere in the middle of the PS2 era and started taking itself too seriously.
In FFVII, you crossdressed, played as a whore about to be fucked by a fat pimp, took jacuzzi baths with a ripped fuccboi and his pals, a beloved character actually died forever, you felt literal fear of Sephiroth, Tifa had humongous boobs, Yuffie pointed out this fact to her, etc etc etc...
