There is some validity in the Kinsey scale in that people under the right conditions possibly would engage in homosexual acts, but societal pressures and a lack of a great desire make them not pursue.

Evolutionary biologists think it might even be a useful trait in social mammals because it creates a small amount of functioning adults that don't create offspring (even then that's not necessarily the case) which can be useful because they don't consume as many resources as breeding adults do.
In the end, It's not even worth batting an eyelash over. And it's obvious that there's so much media focus on it because it's a hot button topic right now, it's been in the country's spot light for years and even more prominently so the last few.
