I just played through it for the first time last week
The fucking acting from most of the cast felt phoned in but Mark Hamil as fucking Majima was so perfect that it's sad that it's only dubbed in the first game and won't return for Yakuza Extreme

He's a poster on various Yakuza threads and mentioned the friend helping him.
He dropped the undub project for some "shit's 2deep" problem which has explained on the link

Those horribly forced f-bombs were though and kiryu's VA couldn't pull them off for the life of him.
>>

But this a translation for a spinoff, isn't it? or is the guy translating both?

Thanks anon, i'll monitor this anyway.
>>
"Nishiki" was on point, the highlight of the game. Yumi's VA was very, very bad. Kyriu's was somewhere in the middle. The other characters were generally great (Date, Majima, Haruka, "Kage", etc.)

He's translating Kenzan,he tried to undub Yakuza 1 but failed.
He pretty much confirmed that he's gonna translate Ishin unless someone will try or Sega decide to get their shit together which may actually happen

I posted that about Kenzan. I decided not to do undub since I'll have to edit ~1800 audio files manually because when Sega made translation they split some of them and merged others.

Yakuza-4-Review.jpg
804 KB, 1288x1006
I just started yakuza 4 as my first in the series and there are some things im a little confused about.

the way people talk through text. It was kind strange at first ,especially when your walking around the city, the things people say remind me of pokemon or some old RPGS, even a lot of the important convos between characters arent voiced. I can understand they have constraints and I dont think the text dialogue is bad, it just kind caught me off guard since i wasn't sure what to expect from this game.

The whole thing reminds me of a lot of other games ive played from different genres. I enjoy it but so far it feels like things havent come together in a meaningful way yet.
Like what else is there to do when you're walking around the city? or is it just like an overworld? do I just need to play more until It opens up more and I get a feel for it? It seems like there isnt that much interaction to be had with the world besides finding keys buying stuff.
in games like GTA you can go around and get into trouble and have fun. yakuza doesnt seem like that, but I could be getting ahead of myself here.
The actual fighting is alright though, there probably is a lot more there I havent explored yet but it still feels kinda weird cuz ive never played one of these games before.

So far the whole experience reminds me of dark souls how when I first played it the game felt so weird and different from what I was used to in a kind of off-putting way. Im determined to keep playing though since ive heard so much praise for these games. I watched the hyperbithero youtube video on the series and he made it sound like the best thing ever.
I want to know what other people think of this stuff and why they find these games appealing.

Some things that also helped for me were changing the minimap so it rotates with you character, like how most games have it.
Then I lowered the brightness. that made the game feel more dark gritty and kind reminds me more of GTA4.

sorry for the rant.
>>
>>322668632

Game is pretty restrictive at first.

>Like what else is there to do when you're walking around the city?
I dunno, man
>baseball
>pool
>fights in arena
>darts
>karaoke
>datesim with hostesses
>sidequests
>management for some characters

Do we really need to hold your hand? Finding stuff and thinking "wow, this game have that too?" is actually pretty nice feeling.

>in games like GTA you can go around and get into trouble and have fun
You can do it in Yakuza too.

This is one of the better game series out there, but it's niche and some people just don't get the game.
Think of it as a Japan Simulator with fighting and crime drama to make it more exciting.
>>
Goddamn, how long is Saejima's section? I appreciate the environment, i like the feel of snowy qnd lonely mountains, but not after escaping jail and punching bears

Hunting is pretty long, story-wise you're actually barely even required to be there though. His chapter is paced weirdly, you spend a while in prison -> take a stop in a mountain village -> spend a little time in this christmas-y town and then his chapter suddenly ends, if you ignore all the side stuff

4's a way better starting point than 3. It's main plot is more self-contained and requires less background knowledge whereas 3 constantly references 2 in it's main plot.

The series will never have an antagonist as good as Goda. Man, why can't they set up the major antagonist earlier instead of worrying with last minute plot twists?
I want a character that i can look and say that that is the guy i will fight shirtless over honor and shittl, a true rival like Nichikyama or Goda.

When will they fix the core combat instead of adding useless shit like crappy new characters?
>>
>>322671753
I just started with 3 and I watched the reminiscence vids of Yakuza 1 and 2

Im just a little bit confused about the names of certain characters but its nothing I cant handle so far.
>>
>>322677001

not to mention how stiff the combat still is in the fucking FIFTH installment
>>
>>322677001
They don't stand around doing nothing as much in 5, the difference in power between the player character and the enemies is so massive that it doesn't mean much though

low-level Shinada has some trouble fighting off larger groups and it felt really fucking weird in a game where you just stomp everyone to death up until that point
>>
As someone who's never played Yakuza, can someone give me the gist? I get the sense it's like Sleeping Dogs mixed with FF.
>>
>>322677984
River City Ransom (open world beat'em'up) in 3d with minigames, crazy side-stories and cheesy criminal drama.
>>
>>322677864
>They don't stand around doing nothing as much in 5

Yeah they do. The "leaders" and backup are just slightly more active. Slightly.

Low level Shinada on EX-Hard with champions ring is the only good part of this game because everyone else is stupidly OP.
>>
>>322677984
It's basically Shenmue with some River City Ransom thrown in
Sleeping Dogs is more like John Woo's (unfortunately clearly unfinished) take on GTA
>>
>>322677984
>Sleeping Dogs mixed with FF

It's Shenmue with less drawers to open. And where Shenmue plays like Virtua Fighter, Yakuza plays like Tekken.
>>
>>322677984
Basically it's a series about a guy getting kicked out of the Yakuza but still having to deal with shit going on with his clan in Tokyo
Gameplay pretty much comprises of walking around town, minigames and fighting guys with the main element of the game being beating up guys to raise heat, which allows you to pull of special moves, and you can also use shit in the environment as weapons

on top of updating enemy movesets I reckon they should just compound the interesting aspects of the new characters into one character, be it Kiryu or some new protag I guess.
