And before anyone cries "muh balance", it doesn't have to be a fucking death cannon or machine gun. If you want to make it balanced, make it a flintlock or some shit. Maybe make crossbows be usable by wizards with the downside that they have to be reloaded constantly and/or deal set damage that is independent of stats and instead reliant on a combination of the types of bolts/ammo and the type of crossbow/gun being used.
I mean, for fuck's sake, it seems like 90% of the time in games (and sometimes tabletops), wizards only use one (or both) hand(s) for their weapon and are unable to equip shields anyways, so you might as well have them using something worth using two hands for.
I want to be a gun-toting megawizard.
I'll magically carry a .50 cal stationary gun with conjured ammo in addition to my vast array of destructive spellcraft.

I liked how older Final Fantasy games allowed healers/white mages to wield bows. They were still low in damage, partly because white mages have shit for strength/attack anyways but at least they were useful, and being ranged weapons you could have them in back row without damage penalty.
