There's a long list of reasons, but the last time somone brought them up ouya fanboys crawled out of the woodwork to defend it's honor. Yes they still exist.
The Ouya Kickstarter was a situation of being at the right place at the right time. With the rise of indie games in the past couple of years, year over year decreases of the "Big Three" hardware sales, and large studios closing down shop, for a brief while, had the company been competently managed, you could make an argument that the Ouya is the future of console gaming: a small, streamlined operation based off of Android (since mobile gaming is the future, you see) that can ship out a cheap console that comes with cheap games, which some people were saying was a huge problem with the current "Big Three" model of AAA $50 million budget games. Julie Uhrman oozes a used car salesman vibe but a lot of questionable Kickstarters got funded without much thought as to whether they would follow through like they said. At that time, nobody really questioned just how Ouya was going to be friendly to indie developers, it just said that it was for them and people whatever reason took it at face value. It offered no real advantages over something like XBLIG except maybe a big fish in a small pond syndrome where some disposable pap would be ignored on XBLIG but would be a hit on Ouya. Except oops, nobody really wound up buying any games on the Ouya.
About 18 months later, the PS4 and somewhat Xbone are breaking sales records, Sony is working well with indie developers (and not just saying it like Uhrman did/does), and Ouya still has yet to meet their obligations to their Kickstarter backers, and never will. I suspect Ouya will quietly drop off the face of the earth until we hear news that they filed for bankruptcy, most likely sometime late next year, about a year after the Twoya was supposed to come out.
