Can we talk about Elder Scrolls Online. Got it for free from a buddy. Is it as terrible as they say?
>>
God no. I picked it up during the sale, just finished tanking the White Gold tower for the first time in a blind run. Probably the most fun I've had in an mmo in a long time.
They are, for the most part, very true to the lore.
Exploring is fun, delves are nice to find and run. Class builds are varied.

Add me in game OP. Username is @Geronomoo
>>
It had an awful launch, but they got their shit together big time.
>>
>>322495348
Glad you have something positive to say. I'm looking forward to playing it, honestly. I just love TES games and lore. I'm trying to think of a class to choose. Not sure which would be the most fun. I'm on PSN. I assume you're PC?
>>
The game is solid but it has some very big "buts" that can ruin the game, it has several "hidden grinds" that might or might not be a deal breaker to you. And veterans are quiting for new games left and right because pvp is a mess.

I could go into detail if you want, but you already have the game so whatever.
>>
>>322496024
I do have the game. Just needed to know if it's worth investing several hundreds hours into it only to find out the game turns to shit later on. Thanks for the input, though, anon.
>>
>>322495643
Yea, PC. Not a master race, I have a ps4 as well. Just be aware that the console community in this game seems to like complaining about the difficulty of the harder encounters.
The lore is kept pretty well, with quests being interesting, although not with as much dialogue as typical TES games.
If you're into dunmer you'll fucking love the care they've put into Morrowind.

One guy was talking about pvp being bad. It's actually one of the better systems in a modern mmo. Just be aware that some builds work better than others.
>>
>>322496237
Yeah then definitely not worth your time, the game is not worth it going full autismo, you'll be dissapointed, the game is fine if you just want to experience the world and complete all/most of the quests, but after that you should stop. You have basically "clear" the whole game 3 times, as in clearing the quests for every faction once you finish your starting one, so there's plenty of content, you can easily get 200+ hours out of it, just don't bother doing dungeons while leveling since almost no one queues for them.

Also if ever intend in being competitive and having the best gear youll NEED to get the latest DLC or sub to ESO plus, the game has no sub, but getting access to highest tier of gear requires you to buy DLC.
>>
>>322496975
You're meant to socialize a little to find groups for dungeons.
>>
Would being a dunmer dragonknight be a good idea? or would that be a bad combo for reasons?
>>
>>322497576
That's actually what I play. You get fire damage bonus on a dunmer that works great with all the fire abilities of a dk. I'd say go for it.
>>
i've been playing it for a bit. im level 7 and it seems like a real bland game. it only feels like a skyrim or a morrowind on the surface level. once you actually play, it feels like exactly what it is: cheap mmo cash in game. there's a lot of content here, and i imagine some of it is good, but it's just such a bland game that i dont feel like continuing.

I played the beta for a couple of hours.

It was horrible in literally every possible way except for the character models. Those Argonian bodies made me moist.
>>
>>322498042
It's changed a fuck ton since the beta, anon. It's the equivalent to a realm reborn fixing ffxiv currently.
>>
I also got FFxiv for free but I don't want to pay for a sub fee. (I already wasted the 30 day one by not playing it.) Wonder if that would be more worth my time before I start ESO.

>>322497698
Good because I love dunmer and I want to be more of a melee focused character. This should be fun.

>>322497814
Are you quitting? Hope I don't find the game bland...Guess I'll find out. It's almost done installing.
>>
>>322497814
the combat system is pretty robust for an mmo tho

It seems generic, but once you really get into it it's much more complex than it seems, the resource management is very important, and timing is also crucial, build diversity is not astronomical but quite big enough to not have character clones left and right.

But yeah sadly the only places where you'll get to enjoy this will be during very high end content and pvp, and pvp is terrible right now.
>>
>>322498206
Do you like dungeon crawling? If so, you'll really love exploring for dungeons in this game. Find an active friendly guild and get to it. Get the pc version if you have to. No idea what the ps4 community is like.
>>
>>322498253
>And PvP is terrible right now.

Literally if they just removed champion points from PvP the game becomes the GOAT MMO. In fact remove the system entirely, it just creates an artificial endgame that fucks up the balance and competition in nearly everything.

OP, i recommend you play non-vet PvP, it's the most balanced there is ATM with the exception of a few faggots running around with 500 CP ruining the fun, but if you have a good group you should be fine.
>>
>>322498976
I do like dungeon crawling a lot. I'm on PS4 and just made a dunmer dragonknight. Sad I can't type to people.

Guess I'll just keep playing until I get bored.
>>
I've reinstalled it a few days ago, and they massively improved the game since the horrible launch.
There's a shitload of things to do, it's actually been some time since I enjoyed an mmo like this.
>>
Let me guess. My xbone friend can't play with me if I'm on Ps4? FUCKIN STUPID!
>>
It's shit
>>
>>322499256
>Dunmer dragonknight.

Literally the best choice for DK, put all your points on stamina and focus on fire abilities, you can reach some of the highest DPS in the game that way.
>>
>>322499562
you mean magicka
>>
>>322499562
good good. Glad I didn't screw that up. Alright thanks everyone. Now I'm just going to enjoy the game and do quests, explore and craft.
I'm going to treat this game like any other single player TES.

>>322500095
So put most points in magicka?
>>
It's pretty alright. I actually think it's better than Skyrim in a lot of ways. Although it really lacks atmosphere and charm.
>>
>>322500290
Don't worry about min/maxing while leveling, you can respec every stat/skill point later on. Just stick to either stamina or magicka as they not only increase the resources, but the amount of damage dealt by abilities that use those resources. Hybrid builds are dumb for that reason as many skills can be morphed to use the opposite resource (and therefore all/most of your abilities will scale from one of the two damage stats). Some health isn't a bad idea for leveling, but most points should go into one of the two damage stats.

Other helpful tips:
Pick a primary armor type you'd like to level and equip as much of it as you can, but always try to have one of both of the other armor types equipped as well (so all heavy with 1 light and 1 medium) as it allows you to level all three armor types at once.
>>
>>322500290
Best of luck man. Enjoy it!
>>
>>322500095
>>322500290
No magicka is underpowered AF in PvP right now and Stamina has some of the best damage multipliers, morph your skills to use stamina instead of magicka and you will even be able to solo a lot of content.

And BTW, about armor choice.

Heavy armor is for survival skills (not much use in PvP due to the current scaling), it's useful for PvE though.

Medium armor is for stamina based skills and passives.

Light armor is for magicka based skills and passives.

GL with the game, it's actually quite fun even if you don't have the DLC right off the bat. It'll keep you occupied for a while.
>>
>>322494916
Champ system catering to a tiny minority of hardcore gamers will prevent you from playing pvp on an equal ground.

The game is good, great graphics, lore, but the fucking champ system ruined it all.

Hardcore losers fucking ruin everything.
>>
>>322501743
Explain the champ system please.
>>
>>322501324
>>322501743
I can morph my skills to use stamina instead of magicka? Neat.

Also I don't think I will ever even do PVP. Never cared for pvp in any mmo before. Unless I have to pvp in this game?
>>
>>322501963
Every month you are given a cap of 300 champ points or something that you gain as you do stuff that gives experience, and with these points you unlock these special passive champ stats that turn out to be very significant if you have a ton of champ stats.

The problem with this is that if 7 months have gone by and people who played during those 7 months have attained all those champ stats over that period of time, new players who just join now will be at 0 while others will be at 1000+ which is a huge stat difference.

Basically you won't be able to pvp FAIRLY unless you grind your ass, but the majority of people actually have lives and aspirations or materials to achieve in real life so if I can't simply hop in ESO and enjoy some pvp for a few hours, I have to spend my time grinding like I have no studies nor a job in order to actually get to the content that's fun.

I'm kind of glad ESO is treated so shit. They deserve it for catering to hardcore subhumans

>remove champ system
>what are exp boosters kek

literally the entire game is built around the fact you're going to spend money.

Train mounts? log in daily for 6 fucking months on every character... for NO fucking reason, or you can spend 180 dollars and get the best mount instantly!!

The best gear? buy our NEW DLC! which gives you access to the highest end game content, which will be obsolete once everyone buys it so we can sell a NEW DLC with better gear!

Champ system? annoys you? How about you try out marvelous exp boosts!!! cut the grind in half! 5 hours of extra XP for only $9.99! what a bargain!

Want the Opie Opie race? try out imperial Edition! for lnly $19.99 more!

I'm surprised they're not selling something to make crafting take less time, it's stupid juggling cooldowns literally doing nothing to get better at crafting, it's like I'm actually playing EVE online.
>>
>>322502968
If I wasn't on mobile I'd reply to all of this, but half that shit is convenience. Further, imps aren't op at all.

Thirdly, you're acting as though mmos haven't always been gated behind the newest expansion.
>>
>>322502968
Yea it's gotten pretty pathetic

>>322502784
Then you should be fine, but questing might get boring.
>>
So just curious. If one was to play a console MMO, ffxiv would be the best choice? Because what >>322502968 said. But I guess MMOs do that kinda shit all the time so it's nothing new.
>>
>>322502828
>hating hardcore content
Please die in a fire.
>>
>>322502968
>Train mounts? log in daily for 6 fucking months on every character.
I agree that it's retarded, and it's in the game since launch, iirc. Stamina isn't really useful past 115, and you can upgrade your bags enough already.
And you can rank vet16 without the latest dlc, what are you talking about ? Imperial aren't op either.
>>
>>322504027
>artificial grinds
>content
anon there's nothing hardcore about having to login for 150 hours a month and kill retarded mobs just to stay competitive
>>
>>322504449
I don't know what you think "hardcore" means, but grinding isn't it.

>>322502828 was bitching about something being time-consuming and calling it hardcore.
The term is erroneously applied there, and bitching about hardcore content and users is not appreciated when the term they're actually looking for is "P2W" or "Jewish".
>>
>>322504027
I only hate hardcore players.

Champ system isn't hardcore. It takes literally 0 skill, only vast amounts of time. Time invested =/= hardcore
time invested = autism

As someone who's interested in getting this game, is it really this dependant on dlc shit?
Is it fairly single player friendly?
I know, >MMO >single player but I'm a PvE clicker since neverwinter nights and I just can't be arsed anymore.
>>
So when will it be F2P? I want to play but no way am I paying for it, atleast not that much.
>>
>>322505375
unless you plan on spending more than 300 hours in the game it won't bother you

if you are one of those autists who really can't stand being worse than someone else, then yes you need the latest DLC to get the strongest gear in the game, you can get vet 16 gear, just not the best, you can still kill people and do dungeons, probably you won't even notice if you don't read forums and shit, but yes BEST gear in game is locked behind DLC, and this will only matter if for some reason want to be the most amazing faggot on the server.
>>
>>322505265
>I only hate hardcore players.
Don't, that's stupid.

>Time invested =/= hardcore
Hardcore users dedicate a lot of time to their passions. By definition, to be hardcore, you have to spend a lot of time with something, but the intention is to git gud.

Was the "hardcore" system in question designed to appease hardcore users, or was it designed to exploit casual users like yourself?
The time investment requirements can be minimized and even removed entirely with microtransactions. Think about that for a minute.
>>
>>322505375
Nah, but the expansions do have some great pve content. Play the game a bit, then pick the expansions up if you want/need more.
>>
>>322505573
>not that much
>twenty bucks for the holidays
Sucks to be you.
>>
>>322506146
>Was the "hardcore" system in question designed to appease hardcore users, or was it designed to exploit casual users like yourself?
Both. Hardcore players (people who play the game too much, or as you put it "dedicate a lot of time to their passions" lol) were drooling over the champ system because they know they would benefit the most since they spend too much time on the game, while giving another incentive for the devs besides appeasing the most loyal fanbase (like mentioned, hc players), that is to get some side cash for people who don't want to grind like subhumans but just pay money.

Sorry I openly welcome hardcore content, but hardcore players are usually garbage people
>>
>>322505768
>>322506150
Thanks anons, think I'll pick up a copy.
What server should I roll on?
>>
>>322507207
there are no servers, just factions

I mean there are different servers, but it's like US/EU and xbox/ps4/pc

obviously join the server closer to your region and that's it...

Do choose the faction where you think your friends (if any) will play, if you chose a nord and your friend chooses khajit, and neither of you buys the explorer pack you won't play together ever.
>>
I've been considering getting this too. Is the Hammerfall faction shit? The one with Redguards, Bretons, and whoever the fuck else is included?
>>
>>322507021
If it appeals to hardcore users and exploits casuals, that's a jewing system, not hardcore.
That a bunch of users from one demographic enjoy the prospect of a system that happens to exploit another, but not for that reason, you can hardly call them bad users.

It's the responsibility of the developers to appease you, not other users.
>>
>>322507794
Nope. All the factions are pretty fucking great if you pick the race whose lore you like the best.
>>
>>322507794
at least 6 months ago or so Daggerfall was the underdog yes

but it tends to fluctuate periodically, like back on release all the tryhard guilds played Aldmeri, as the game went to shit said guilds started to quit and the remaining autism faggots moved to Ebonheart.

It also fluctuates depending on the timezone, like some factions have kiwi guilds, so they dominate during the night, and then lose everything during the day.

Faction balance is whatever, just join a zerg and farm shit.
>>
>>322508423
Ok, cool. Is it a bad move to buy it through Steam? Looks like it's the same price on the ESO website.
>>
>>322508139
What? I never said it was hardcore.

I was just shitting on hardcore players because they were the ones who sobbed and whined for it
>>
>>322508734
Not a bad move at all, but there was some keygen site selling it for 12$, some people I know got it there.
If you end up playing PC, US side, add Geronomoo as a friend. Can give you starting armor and shit.
>>
>>322509258
Will do, friend anon.

beta was crap, also the planned payment mode.
I bought it last week after I've seen some let's plays and I'm not disappointed yet.
It's kinda cheap now with the one time payment. At least cheaper than Skyrim after year one.
