When I originally played S;G, I got the true ending first time without trying. It wasn't until I played the Vita version that I even realised you could get other endnigs.

It's easy to get the real ending if you do that "Talk to the guide quest" but when i reached the NPP in my first playtrough, i just went into the monolith room without realizing and got the"i want to be rich"ending, i thought that was the real ending.

Not that the game itself is a cakewalk to complete, but god help you if you miss out on any insignificant bit of dialogue, didn't take absolutely everything not nailed down, or didn't take careful notes.
Basically at the very end you have exactly one shot to explain to the court exactly what happened. Every single murder victim must have a murderer, a motive and means, each question has about 20 different choices, all of which have to be 100% correct. There are a couple of other seemingly minor side-stories which happen throughout the night and you need to get the questions on those correct as well.
If you mess up, even once, or you get everything exactly right (via a walkthrough) but you haven't collected enough clues / evidence to back up your claims, (which basically mean taking everything, and the game won't tell you what you missed)the jury and judge refuse to believe anything you say, the killer goes completely free (in some cases, wasn't even suspected of anything), you get fired from your job for being a lousy reporter, your rival finishes your report and takes all the glory and fame, the love interest leaves town never to be seen again, your father has a heart attack, the museum shuts its doors,and then there's a fully-animated one-minute scene where someone crawls into your bedroom and guns you down repeatedly in your sleep while laughing at you.

sky fish has a high drop rate and you can clearly see it. The green slug doesn't always appear and has a low drop rate.
I believe though that the key to getting both was the time stop ability, which made both fairly easy to get if I remember correctly.
