It has failed to attract new players because nobody wants to play 19 bucks a month just for one single game.

Continual dumbing down, combined with an obvious lack of care put into everything. The A team that use to work on the game was moved off of it to work on other stuff and the B team was told to maintain it.
Metzen became more interested in making WoW his wank fantasy then in actually making it interesting.
