Is there anyone that would argue that this is not the best standard all purpose controller ever created?

ONLY SONY STUFF IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE BEST

IT'S NOT FAIR
>>
>>322303262
It looks good, but I grew up on DS2, so I bought a DS4 for PC games that need a controller (like Rocket League and shit).
>>
>>322303513
>MY POSTS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FUNNY, ITS NOT FAIR.
>>
>>322303491
Nevermind, I thought you meant triggers. I agree the bumpers 360 bumpers were better.
>>
>>322303262
I personally prefer the DualShock's stick layout, but acknowledge it's for matters of personal preference and not out of any technical objective differences.
>>
The lunar white and forza controllers are fucking amazing
>>
>no wired variation like the 360 meaning i can't just hook it up to my pc and never think about the battery
>shit tier bumpers now

Will Microsoft ever get it right?
>>
>>322303381
It's funny I always thought the 360 bumpers were utter shit. Do the xbox one controllers bumpers break or something?
>>
>>322303721
Dude all you need is a micro usb cable and you can plug it into your pc. The drivers are automatic.
Fuckin tard.
>>
>>322303262
The Covert Ops controller is a straight upgrade.
The shoulder buttons work properly, its lighter, and you can plug computer microphones into it. Its also around the same price,
Its also only a tiny bit more expensive.
>>
>>322303262
I don't like the bumper positions. They're almost too forward.
And it feels like the D-Pad is unresponsive sometimes.

For most modern games, though, I'd say it's probably the best. I prefer the DS4 for overall usage since I like the button positioning and D-Pad better, but I know some people don't like the split D-Pads or feel the controller is too small.

I'd take either of the above over a regular DS3 at this point though.

tl;dr it's pretty good 8/10
>>
>>322303721
You know you can connect it with any micro usb cable right?

Lunar with the grips is best controller
>>
>>322303896
>The drivers are automatic.
Not him, but not always they aren't.
The covert ops controllers have been known to have issues on Win7, at least in terms of automatic detection. You can still force them to use the driver in the device manager. Windows 8+ I haven't had any troubles with automatic detection on the same PC, though.
>>
>>322303930

I had one, the right trigger started creaking after two weeks, the bumpers were too spongy and went down past the triggers, diagonals didn't register on the d-pad half the time and the finish made my hands sweat.

It's shit.

>retarded user
>>
>>322304182

>>
Recently grabbed a DS4 for my PC gaymen. It's legit, and the Dpad is probably the best next to the Nintendo controller.

DS4 is a superior controller for fighters and platformers that require precision.
>>
>>322303896
No, you idiot. I'm aware, I own one. That's not that point. That doesn't solve that I have to think about the battery.

>constantly recharging it even when it barely needs it
>having a battery in a device I'm using in my hands that's receiving outside power
>>
DS4 for me.
>le Sony shill
I have small hands, DS4 is more comfy to me than X1 controller. Although I played Forza at those demo things while waiting on line, and the triggers are fucking amazing. Too bad I use L1/R1 to shoot for minimum delay, and you guys agree it has shit bumpers. Also, making my DS4 glow any color I want is kinda cool and using the touchpad as a mouse in those intermissions where you need them is convenient. Plus I already own a PS4 for multiplats because I get catered to as if I was an uninformed casual, not shelling any more for a controller until this one breaks which it will soon because it's a shittily made launch day controller.

I prefer the DS4. Its just a matter of preference but it just feels less clunky and I really like the Dpad. I actually prefer the 360 pad to the Xbone version, bumpers are way better.
>>
>>322304557
Got it, I thought you were shitting on all xbox one controllers, my bad.

Those upgrades have been standard for a while now.

I've never held one but that D-pad looks fucking sweet.
>>
>>322304646
No, are you an idiot? I'm saying it would be better if they released a purely wired variation as well like they did with the 360 controller.

>mfw there's children on 4chan being dumb again

I dont understand why you have to think about the battery. I use mine for my PC and never have to worry about the controller dying. It charges when its connected
>>
>>322304862
You can take the batteries out if you have a fear of lithium you pussy.
>>
There's nothing the Xbone is good at it

except being shit
>>
>>322304862
Give up hope now. A hardwired controller is now considered obsolete and a money sink to sony/microsoft/nintendo. Get a charge kit and wireless dongle, it's perfection. And if the controller dies it's probably time you took a break anyways fatty ;)
>>
>>322304859
it's kind of heavy the first time you hold it but everything about it makes it feels like it's meant to last. the sticks and paddles are interchangeable
and the bumpers and triggers are metal and work flawlessly.

it and the sticks are metal along the base so it doesn't have the plastic rub off shit either.

the price is steep but if the XB1 controllers is your go to controller than why not get the best version that'll live the longest.

i got it but i figure the price will go down eventually to be more affordable for other players. according to microsoft they aren't short on demand for this thing
>>
>>322303508
Sure the saturn pad is miles better but the xbone dpad isn't bad by any means. It does its job well enough where I haven't even bothered fishing the saturn controller out of my closet just to play the occasional 2D game anymore.

My only complaint is the shape of the bumpers and the smooth plastic on them. They're too slippery. Would be better with some textured matte plastic look on Sony controllers.
That and it's a tad small.
>>
>>322303771

Xbox One bumpers require more pressure to press down and are more clicky than 360's, which felt more mushy in comparison.

Lots of people don't seem to like it. Seems to be a love/hate thing. I love it.

>Xbone controller
>Better then the 360 controller

Maybe in the dpad department but i still think people over exaggerate by saying the 360 dpad is that bad when its alright.

The xbone controller has
>tinier analog sticks for no reason
>the analog sticks are looser unlike the 360 ones so its harder to be as precise
>Those fucking terrible bumpers that take 10x the effort to press in on the fly as 360 ones

Its a downgrade in almost every way. The buttons being softer to press in is subjective but still something and i guess the dpad is alittle better.

Its still better then DS4 for the fact its analogs are cupped. I can't stand alot of games on the DS4 analog when doing a precision input because its still ball top and feels loose as all hell to go with it.

I don't see how anyone can deny the 360 pad being the very best pad.
>>
>>322305592
But the controller feels like shit sense the first one. The main reason why people loved the 360 iz because it was not the controller from the original xbox that was for mongo handed people. They literally went from shit to normal and people bought it.

Dpad on 360 wasn't that bad. It was alittle stiff but it was function. Some pro players even make it work for fighting games like Smug Zeus etc. Not top pros but still respectable as fuck.

Also the analogs not only got smaller they also got looser so instead of requiring force that make inputs more precise they're more of on par with the DS4 in that regard and its bothersome.

I had the audacity to occasionally play it.

I've had a PS1, PS2, PS3, Original Xbox, 360, Xbox One and none of the thumbstick rubber tore. The consoles from 360 gen and earlier took way more abuse than my PS4/XB1 controllers got because I was younger and gamed a lot more.

It's a widely documented quality control issue with the Dualshock 4 and has caused Sony to try various rubber mixtures on their thumbsticks with varying degrees of success.

Not my picture, but exactly what happened both times.

It is, but not the way you described it.
Especially if you only use it "occasionally".
>>
>>322307521

For the duration of that time, I had 3 games. The console got used maybe 3 hours a night after work.

All my previous consoles controllers stood up to years of abuse with 8-9 hour sessions most days of the week with almost no wear and tear, definitely none on the coating of the thumbsticks.
>>
>>322307416
The problem isn't what drivers you have to install to make PS4 controllers work.
The problem is that you need to manually install drivers at all.

OR you could just plug in your controller and use it without having to go to some shifty third party website run by some 14 year old asian kid to download shady software that may or may not work.
This whole point is kinda moot anyway because I think the whole point of the conversation is what should be the standard controller based on comfort, durability and playbility, not which controller has the easiest software to use or which controller plugs into my favorite vidya system.

Sorry but that is the ugliest sack of trash I've ever seen. DS4 is elegant, and sophisticated, especially in White or 20th Anniversary Grey

Anon I don't think you understand that you can use any data carrying micro USB and it is then a wired controller. Why would you want to limit your own options and have a dedicated wired-only controller when you can have one that does both functions?

So after my thumbsticks kept tearing on my DS4 through moderate use, I made some modifications to it.

Discovered that XB1 thumbsticks slot into the cavity perfectly, so I ordered a set. Ordered a 2000mAh battery too (Stock PS4 battery is half that).

Unfortunately I broke the clips on the case while prying it apart, so I bought a new case, went with a coloured option instead of plain black.

Now I have a DS4 with twice as long battery life and XB1 thumbsticks. Meet Bumblebee.

I've used the Dualshock's symmetrical sticks almost all my life so that's weird as hell to me. It's asymmetrical sticks that weird me out a little, but even then I can still use them if need be.
>>
>>322312510
All DS controllers are sub-par, more so now that they don't even have pressure-sensitive buttons anymore.

Shitty analog placement and the Dpad is STILL that fucking segmented crap. Not as bad as the XB/360's dpad but close, it's still imprecise and designed all wonky. Just make it one solid piece above the case. Instead of tilting what feels like one large piece of plastic in a single direction like most Dpads, it's like I'm pressing four individual buttons.
>>
>>322312912

Thumbsticks £2.50 on ebay
Battery was £10
Case was £6.

Either that or buy a brand new controller for £60 (which was how much they were at the time). End up with a controller with half the battery life and a good chance the thumbsticks will just rip again.
>>
>>322303262

They cant make it one piece because Nintendo has it patented.
>>
>>322313001

>and the Dpad is STILL that fucking segmented crap

Funny you mention that, Vita of all things has a D-Pad that's one complete piece of plastic and it's fucking god tier. Like, you probably have to go back to 4th or 5th gen to find a D-Pad that good. I don't know why the DS4 doesn't use that kind of D-Pad when Sony has clearly shown they know how to do it.
>>
>>322303262
The shoulder buttons are a bit weird but I've gotten used to them. The dpad is a thousand times better than the 360 version but I don't like the placement.
>>
>>322306596

>>
Vita Dpad is god tier
>>
>>322313197
Why can xbawks do it then?
>>
>>322313429
They can't in the same way Nintendo does. The way its shaped allows it to be one piece, and external of the controller. Xbone is one piece, but internal, Thats why New 3DS and Wii U have the best D pad this gen.
>>
>>322313334

Im guessing you didn't read the follow up comments about how not a single one of my earlier consoles despite far more gametime never had the same issues? Or how this was a widely reported issue acknowledged by Sony, which even resulted in them releasing revisions of the controller with different types of rubber on the thumbsticks?
>>
>>322313351
every other dpad feels like trash in comparison

having to use an X1/360 dpad after using the vitas is essentially torture
>>

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying.
Do you have a link or something?
>>
>>322313842

>>
My understanding is that the Xbone Dpad is within a recession on the controller whereas Nintendo dpads protrude from the controller. However I was wrong, the patent for Nintendo's Dpad expired in 2006 so technically anyone could copy them now.
>>
I need a gamepad for emulation. What's the best option? I already have 360 one but fuck if I want to use that horrible pad.
>>
>>322310169

This controller is not only one of my favorites of all time, but my favorite of this gen. It's 10 bucks cheaper too than the ps4 and Xbox one controller, which just puts the icing on the cake.

>>
>>322314775

It's a standard mini USB cable, or you can use a bluetooth adaptor.

Then you need to run a programme to trick your PC into thinking it's a 360 controller.
>>
What's wrong with Wii U trigger?
>>
>>322315063

On the Pro controller? They're digital, which means they're just buttons. There's no degree of control. You can't half press them down and have 50% input. They're 100% or nothing.
>>
>>322303262

>Bumpers are shit

I got those initially. They were horrible, made the thumbsticks feel too big, they kept slowly twisting around the thumbstick during play.

So as I posted above, I ripped apart the controller and replaced them with XB1 thumbsticks I got for £2.50 off Ebay.
>>
>>322303262

I like both

I'd probably pick an xbone controller over the DS4 for an all around controller on PC as the DS4 is a bit small for me but I like the share button on the DS4.

DS4 is probably the closest. I find most D-Pads on USB PC controllers to be pretty terrible. XB1 dpad is just "ok". Not shit like 360's.

DS4 has decent analogue triggers, great D-Pad and is the most ergonomic Playstation controller to date, however having large hands they still cramp up eventually (takes several hours as opposed to 30 minutes the DS3 lasted with me)

I'm just looking for some controller that has a precise d-pad, something that doesn't fuck up my move like inputing a diagonal when I'm pressing down.

You get used to shoulders with practice.

The Hori Fighting commander is literally a meme controller.
It has this gadget thing where you can rotate the D-pad for absolutely no other purpose than make people believe the have easier diagonals, in fact when you play it can happen that this same d-pad rotates alone because its sloppy as fuck.

Then the hold isn't as big as any of the latest controller so it doesn't feel comfortable, it's long in one side short in the other, this also doesn't sit good with your mind when you're playing.

Buttons are fragile, and D-pad hurts a lot when you input circular motions.

Not him, but I don't want to pay for extra stuff that I'll never use.
Batteries are costly and if you never use them they might degrade, the wireless dongle has only one purpose, and the micro USB cable Microsoft ships the XBone controller with is notoriously fragile.
So basically you have to pay for an option that you'll probably never take advantage of, and will probably expire after a while. Not to mention the fact that wired connections are more reliable.

This is like having to order a pepperoni pizza even though you only want a cheese pizza, because "you can just remove the pepperoni if you don't like it".
