I'll be honest OP, you won't get any straight answers out of this dumb website.
WoW isn't great anymore, maybe if you try RP servers, personally I've never tried any but I've heard they're good.
There's not really much to do on WoW anymore, all social aspect has been removed from it since you got your own "house" that only you can visit unless you invite people. And getting groups is as easy as pressing a button. That'd be great if there was enough content to justify those choices but honestly it feels like a void and most groups don't even talk to each other.
Forget about guilds, unless you're planning on doing hardcore raiding or PVP they don't really matter. Hope I could help.

I don't know, I kinda just bought it. From my initial impression it doesn't have any story, or too much advancement past get more money to get better ships and stuff, but it looks nice and fighting it cool and it's like 15 bucks right now

Any private servers are worth looking into. SWGemu, Project 1999, and Nostalrius comes into mind.
Tera has sluts and lolis, DnDO and Neverwinter Online if you want to play in an DnD world, LotrO if you want some comfy landscape and being a bard.
You could play Mabinogi, grind useless life skills like blacksmithing and then make a small fortune from selling top tier equipment without ever entering a dungeon.
