Thank you to the anons that have been having Yakuza threads for the past 3 months or so. I've played and beat every game up to 4 so far. Each game has been a great ride, and it has quickly become one of my favorite games of all time.
I just started 4, and am really enjoying the change of pace with Akiyama. I'm still only on the second chapter, but I know I will switch characters eventually. Will I be able to switch characters a la GTA V or should I prioritize doing various side quests and shit extra shit before certain chapters where I'm forced to switch characters?

Does the final boss of 0 work the same way the one in 5 does? Just one long spectacle slugfest.

I know we can always expect some post credit scene of him being alive, but I'd really like Yakuza 6 to be the last game featuring Kazuma, and it ending with him in an unwinnable battle facing off against the remains of the Tojo Clan.
The Tojo Clan just needs to fucking die already it's always been a huge mess, and Kazuma always seems to be right in the middle of every mess despite it not being his fault. The Omi alliance should just stomp right into kamurocho and take over. When the flames lift Kazuma is seen as the one who killed the Tojo Clan, with the reasoning that in every major event from 0-6, Kazuma was always at the heart of it.

I was finally able to get Yakuza 5 start. Where i live i don't have internet, so i brought it to my parent's house only to find out the IP is blacklisted by Sony/Prolexic and i couldn't access the store. Had to share my 4g internet with the Ps3, buy it, access the download list and then download it through the normal internet connection.
Still, hope it's all worth it. Possibly my favorite franchise.

Maybe. I'm personally a fan of Shinada, but I think Akiyama would be the next most likely candidate for the main story. After what happened in 5 with all of those Yakuza bowing down to him, it seems like he's the one people would go to with their problems if Kiryu was indisposed.

I honestly think a new lead character could the "The Kid" from Yakuza 3 (Dates Boss). He had a nice fashion style, and he seemed like a decent human being with a lot of room for development.
He's a reporter for a newspaper. That could be a really nice mini-game similar to Akiyamas Hostess club and loan service. It could be you writing reports and collecting scoops, and getting deeply involved with the families and gangs.
When i saw the "Kazuma" of Yakuza 6, i immediately thought it was Kazuma's bastard son. A kid he had before going to jail without even realizing, and now because his mom died or something he comes looking for his dad.
I think Kiryu / Akiyama / Saejima are without a doubt confirmed for 6, so the question becomes where to go from there. 3 characters with 3-4 styles each, or 5-6 with 2 styles each?
If they opt for 5-6 characters, I'd love to see Tanimura or Shinada return but my ideal roster would still be Watase / Kaoru / new character

Each part of the game has you playing a specific character, though you can choose who to play in the final part by going to the bar or something like that. It's been a while so I forget the specifics.

Oh! Well, there are two last bosses and they have reasonable amount of health bars, though if you use something like Kiryu's destruction or Dragon of Dojima style you can destroy the guy's health bar quite quickly. Neither are really that hard unless you go underleved.
I liked final boss. Though it was really easy to cheese him with Komaki Parry and Tiger Drop. Fighting bosses normally is kinda frustrating. They break from your combos with some superarmor unblockable shit, it's so stupid.

In Yakuza 3, once the story actually picks up and you're in Kamurocho doing stuff I thought it all seemed pretty good until the Barack Monday stuff started happening in full force. I don't think that the core theme of Kiryu not being able to ever escape his mobster days is an inherantly bad one, it's just handled pretty consistently badly.
I really enjoyed in his chapter in 5 (despite how underwhelming the identity of his final boss was) even, and it had that same theme basically.

If the entire game was Shinada's story then I'd agree but it being this one sizeable self-contained story that was extremely tangentially connected to this larger story going on at the exact same time felt really weird to me. I enjoyed it (a lot) for what it was but I just couldn't shake off that feeling right to the end of the game.
Almost felt like it was one big expanded substory for Daigo, except with Daigo not actually being playable or in the spotlight.

Kiryu's chapter had a great finale but fumbled around to get there and had what was probably the worst scene in the entire game. Kiryu busts into the club to "question" Watase about Daigo's whereabouts. But all he does was scream "NO U" for 10 minutes while Watase can't even get a word in. Completely insulting to the character's intelligence.

How was that the worst scene in the game? It was the scene that established Watase as being of a different stock to the usual shitheads Kiryu has to deal with. Kiryu acted angrier than normal in that scene because it was a reasonable assumption in that situation with the knowledge Kiryu had to think that Watase nabbed Daigo.

I usually go by how the fight is portrayed in the QTE's. I felt that Saejima and Kiryu absolutely destroyed Daigo and Kido. Dunno if it's the game just being easy, but even Mine put up a better fight than any of those two. 5's final boss probably has the most impressive showing besides Ryuji, but who knows how deserved that is considering the circumstances.

Because it honestly depends on the state of both of the characters after the fight. If one is on the ground and the other one is still standing, but catching his breath, that means the other one is stronger.
In this regard, Saejima is the only guy who seems to actually be on Kiryu's level, since even when he went down at the end of their second fight, Kiryu went down with him. And then they both got back up.

I honestly thought after 3 the whole family was dead. Nishiki died in the first game along with his second in command, Kanda was the bottom of the barrel leader they had left, and Kiryu wrekt them so hard they just gave up and the survivors joined up with Majima.
