In the first half of the game, they never touch you until you've killed enough where they start fighting back if you attack first. In groups of adults and children, the adults will attack you if you get close to the children.
In the second half of the game (5 years later after killing a shit ton of shades), they actually start putting on armor and having weapons because they're getting ready to defend themselves fromyou.

Drakengard 1 does not have platforming, and Drakengard 3 is insanely linear despite those few open spaces like the desert zone. I would've traded the half assed platforming for real Aerial Combat anyday.

I enjoyed DoD1s story and atmosphere a little more than Nier but I hold them about equal. I give DoD1 more points for being more of a complete package whereas Nier has most of its finer points buried in bonus material, and the writing is a little spotty at times thanks to the 2 different versions.

ts really not, it all depends on what your story is and how you actually want to tell your story.
Catherine's story wouldnt work in some open world, and ultimately its story dosent even demand it.
And I liked DoD1s episodic style alot, gave it tons of character and I had no problem being immersed into it.
If anything I think the open world of Nier allowed for too much filler like some of the side missions, but it was excellent in that it let you build an attachment to the world and all the locations.

Only thing I'm worried about is if Nier Automata is going to feel more "alien" than the original Nier. Nier 1 was basically about a guy trying to protect his daughter in a harsh environment, which I think many people will find relatable, but Nier Automata is going to be about androids from the moon vs killer alien robots. Not saying that Nier Automata is going to be bad, I just don't think it will be quite the feel trip that Nier 1 was.

Theres a very distinct simplicity to MGS1/2 thats lost in MGS3, more does not equal better.
Its much better to have a small set of equipment with its own distinct use, not a billion items that do the same thing. MGS4 and V were also gimped because of this.
3 and onwards also caused MGS to lose much of its arcade stealth personality in favor of "bellycrawl" stealth which only slows the game down considerably.
