I think we already had a thread on that one. It's technically bigger but it has much more empty space due to map design and the shape of the "main" island.
San Andreas feels bigger because of the cities and the actual landscape in between.
I prefer SA to V.

I can spend all day playing that damn game its so fun.
I love the gang territory part I will take over every purple and yellow territory until they have one left then I will neglect to defend my shit till they build back up and almost take all my green shit over then I put on my Jet pack and fucking go to work on them niggers and mexicans again. Variation does a lot to make it feel like it has scale.

It has also something to do with the speed at which you travel. Cars were slower and thus making the map seem bigger.

Will they fix the movement in the next game? It feels so clunky because they have to have those fancy animations. Going from GTA V to Dragon's Dogma feels weird, DD is so snappy in comparison. I think Assassin's Creed is another series that utilizes realistic animations and feels a bit heavy as a result, but it's not as clumsy as GTA. Tank controls in 2015, come on now
